Alpine School Experience

Congratulations to the Year 9 students who spent an entire term at the Alpine School for Student Leadership. The program mission is to provide an immersive State-wide residential program for Year 9 Government school students which enables them to grow into better citizens and leaders through increased self-awareness, social engagement, community connection and environmental stewardship. Princes Hill students are regulars at the Alpine school and this year Charlie Pettitt, Harvey Harris, Flynn Dowsett, Eliza Hazlem, Abigail Hutchins and Madeleine Broadhurst  were our participants.

Eliza who is also a student representative on School Council had the following to say...

What did a day to day look like in the Alpine School?

"I would usually wake up around 6.30am and go for an early morning run with beautiful views of the mountains, we would have a collective breakfast before starting our workshops for the day. We would be led by our student leaders each day, we would all have opportunities to take the lead. Our classes were based on the 9 key learning concepts. "

       2.  What was your favourite part of the alpine experience?

"Being so connected to the environment was one of the best parts of the whole experience. One of our biggest days on the camp, we hiked a 22km trail and I was given the chance to be navigator. I used to struggle to speak in front of my peers and this really helped me as I was given opportunities to address my fellow classmates whilst leading. While being the trail leader, we would have to navigate our own route and figure out the altitude and measure out how many kilometres we had travelled. It was a huge day and great experience."

     3. Would you recommend this experience to upcoming year 9 students?

"I would definitely recommend this experience to my fellow peers, it was amazing and I met so many great new people. It was really enjoyable just being able to connect with nature, it was a lot of fun and I had a really great time. Home sickness was hard, but it taught me a lot about myself and developing my own independence. "
