Welcome!

Welcome to the 2024 school year! We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful and safe summer holidays. Students have had a great start and we are looking forward to the many amazing things we will learn this year. If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher. Thankyou!

Forms

Please make sure all forms that were handed out on our interview day are signed and handed in at your earliest convenience. This should include:

  • Netbook Lease form
  • User Agreement form
  • Swimming Program form

Netbooks

We were very excited to receive our netbooks this week and look forward to using them as part of our learning program! All netbooks will remain at school for the first few weeks as we learn about their proper care and use.

Students are more than welcome to personalise their netbook backgrounds but other control features including cursors need to be left unchanged.

Netbook cases should also arrive in 1-2 weeks and will be sent home for students to decorate however they would like!

Swimming Sports

Swimming sports will be held on Thursday, February 15th (Week 3). There will be a mixture of competitive and non-competitive activities (such as races and games) to cater for all of our swimmers. We ask that all students remember to bring SunSmart swimmers as we will be outside for the entire event.

Please check Mr Smith's message for more details.

SRC

Every year students vote in an SRC member from their classroom to represent their ideas to the school. All students who would like to be considered for this role will need to prepare a speech to share with their classmates as to why they think they should take on this position. These speeches will be held at the end of Week 3 and then students will have the opportunity to vote for who they think would make the best candidate to represent their classroom.

Learning in Weeks 3 & 4

Mathematics: This fortnight we will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes in our Applied Maths sessions. We will also begin our Fluid Groups sessions next week, starting with a focus on Place Value. Our Fluid Groups help students to be in a focused learning group, which changes for each Maths topic, depending on the skills and knowledge that they demonstrate during assessments and in the classroom.

Writing & Reading: In Writing, students are exploring what a Persuasive is and how to write an effective Persuasive piece. We will also review some basic VCOP elements including how to structure a sentence and use boundary punctuation. In Reading, students have been reviewing how to pick a 'Good Fit' book. This fortnight we will move onto looking for interesting vocabulary and using context clues to help define unknown words.

Topic: As part of our Start Up, students have been completing a variety of activities all about themselves to help us get to know each other better. We will move into a couple of different topics this term including 'Healthy Eating' during this upcoming fortnight.
