Respectful Relationships

Respectful Relationships at Spring Gully Primary School is a highly valued program where the students learn how to be ‘Respectful’, ‘Resilient’ and ‘Responsible’. This not only reflects our school values but teaches our students how to ‘Be Awesome’, which is our school motto.

In this newsletter space, we will keep you up to date with what is going on schoolwide with Respectful Relationships, starting with Grade1/2 Murphy. This week we started our unit on Emotional Literacy and had fun talking about all the different emotions that we knew. Here are a few photos of the students displaying their wonderful acting skills of the emotions, happy, sad, angry, excited and worried.

Gardening Club

Our lunch time Gardening Club started up again this week. We had a great turn out for the first session of the year, with lots of enthusiastic gardeners joining in. The garden is filled to the brim with herbs, fruits and vegetables at the moment, with lots of rain and sun helping with the growth of our plants. Our club is open to all students across the school, and we encourage new and experienced gardeners to come along. It's a great place to be on a Tuesday at 1.30pm!

SunSmart Reminder

As a proud SunSmart school, students are required to wear broad-brimmed hats or bucket hats outside. This is in line with the Cancer Council’s SunSmart recommendation that hats be worn from mid-August through to the end of April. Although it may not always feel like hat weather, UV levels can still be damaging on cool, cloudy days. Students without an appropriate hat will be asked to use shaded areas or suitable areas protected from the sun.

Too much of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation can cause sunburn, skin and eye damage and skin cancer. UV damage accumulated during childhood and adolescence is associated with an increased risk of skin cancer later in life. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia. It is also one of the most preventable cancers. You can’t see or feel the sun’s UV. Whatever the weather, if the UV levels are three or more, it’s important to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide!

Families are encouraged to access the daily local sun protection times via the SunSmart widget on the school’s website, free SunSmart appsunsmart.com.au or bom.gov.au.

Hats may be purchased from our uniform supplier, Noone.

Noone's hours are Monday to Friday 9 am-5 pm and Saturday 9 am-12 pm.

Hello and welcome back everyone!

2024 SRC nominations are almost upon us. We encourage you to have conversations with your children about the important responsibility being a student leader is.

Students in Grades 1-6 can apply by writing a short speech and sharing with their grades why they would make a great leader. Each class will then vote for the student they would like to represent them at the SRC. Please check with your child's classroom teacher about when they will be holding the speeches. Each class will have one representative.

We hope to have our new SRC team by the end of next week.
