Wellbeing & Culture

Welcome Back, and Happy 2024!

As it is a new year, with many new families in our school community, I thought I would quickly re-introduce myself; Cheyenne Mason – Wellbeing Officer.

I have been privileged to work here at Croydon Hills Primary since 2020 and support the well-being of all of our students. Some of my tasks here include:

  • Working with a few of our students for a short period 1:1 check-ins when a difficult season arises, or when a student needs a boost of confidence working through social or emotional areas of school life.
  • Finding, creating and running proactive wellbeing programs and small groups for students including Helping Hands and Peaceful Kids.
  • Discussing wellbeing concerns with parents and carers as they arise and recommend options and strategies.
  • Teaming with teachers, staff, and parents/ carers to best approach our whole school and student wellbeing.
  • Creating a safe space for students to recover, regulate and prepare to re-enter class when emotions have become too overwhelming.

I approach my role from a restorative practice lens. Restorative Practices is the science of relationships in the context of community. I understand that to have a strong, healthy, sustainable well-being, we need to relate well to each other within our whole community. Grace and gratitude are key to good mental health!

If you as a member of our school community have a well-being-related question or concern, please do not hesitate to send me an e-mail and I will do my best to get back to you promptly.

My email: Cheyenne.Mason@education.vic.gov.au.  I am on-site Monday through Friday, feel free to stop by my office and say hi if you want to run past anything with me in person.

This year we have a new face on our Wellbeing team working on Wednesdays, and her name is Kelly Goodgame. She will introduce herself in this newsletter next week so stay tuned!
