WAVERLEY DIVISION SWIMMING

A team of 60 swimmers represented Vermont at the Waverley Division Swimming competition on Monday the 4th of March. The level of competition in the pool was high with swimmers from Vermont, Mount Waverley, Glen Waverley and Highvale battling it out to win as many points as possible for their school.

It was a close affair all day with Vermont trailing Mount Waverley by 36 points prior to the freestyle events and the all important relays.

Our swim team should hold their heads high as VSC was represented in every single event, with some experienced and not so experienced swimmers jumping in and swimming in events to get the job done. We just fell short in the end for the grand aggregate shield. Mount Waverley finished on top with 852 points, to our 813 points. A close and competitive contest which made for great poolside viewing!

INTERMEDIATE ROUND ROBIN

Baseball Boys/Mixed

On Thursday the 29th of February, our Intermediate Baseball Team had an extremely successful day after going through the Waverley Division undefeated!

In the first game against Highvale SC, our bats came alive early, scoring 5 runs in the first inning off the back of some superb hitting. Ali C started on the mound and kept the opposition scoreless through the first inning. David H did a great job to back it up on the mound and our defense played an important role in restricting Highvale to 2 runs for the game. After some aggressive base running and excellent hitting, the final score was 10-2.

The second game of the day was against Glen Waverley SC and our talented team continued their winning form and excellent baseball from the top of the 1st inning. The opposition struggled to get on base due to the consistent pitching from Will S. Some impressive hitting and heads up base running allowed Vermont to score 15 runs and put the game out of reach.

After winning the first 2 games, the team was very confident moving into the final game against Mount Waverley SC. As both teams had gone through the day undefeated, this was practically a Grand Final play off. With the bats firing early, VSC got off to a quick start as the lead went out to 3-0 in a hurry! An incredible play from Zac K in the outfield restricted Mount Waverley to 2 runs in the 1st inning. Another consistent batting inning and solid hitting from Evan R meant Vermont could extend their lead to 6-2. An incredible pitching display from Will S to close the game out with nothing but strikes! Our Intermediate Baseball team will now turn their focus to the Eastern Metropolitan Region Finals which are being held on the 23rd of April.

The following students represented the College with outstanding character and sportsmanship: Ali C, Jack C, Archie D, David H, Lachlan H, Josh K, Zach K, Luke M, Emmanuel N, Evan R, Xavier S, Will S, Liam W.

Intermediate Girls Volleyball.

Both A and B teams played well despite some serious competition last week against Mount Waverley, Highvale and Glen Waverley. Though we dropped each match, we played with positive and encouraging spirit throughout the day. Thanks to all who came along to the practice sessions and the games. Special thanks to Katrina Y and Taylor L from year 11 for coaching the A team this year.

Cricket Boys/Mixed

The boys were in for an awesome day. The weather was mild and in game 1 we sent Highvale in to bat. Who would have thought that they’d make 150 off 15 overs. We were in strife, however, thanks to a brilliant lead off innings of 50 (retired) by Ansh S and supporting hands from Rudra P and Archer P and then a great captain’s knock by Hamish K we ran down the score with a few balls left.

So off to the final again Glen Waverley. Led again by Ansh, Hamish and a cavalier 32 n/o off very few balls by Noah C we made a commanding 160 odd. Glen Waverley never came close. Our bowling and fielding went up several notches from the first game and we suffocated the GW batting line up. They were all out for just over 100.

Well played Team

Cricket Girls

The girls played against Mount Waverley and Glen Waverley. Although they did not come out victorious in either match, they did come away having shown care and consideration for each other.  Maya, Sienna and Elodie, who all play cricket outside of school, were fantastic at guiding, teaching and including the other girls who were all new to the sport.  Every girl had an opportunity to bat and bowl throughout the day and they showed great improvement in their skill level in this very short period of time.  All the girls should be very proud of their efforts and mostly for the way they conducted themselves both on and off the field; true team spirit was on full display.  Great effort girls.
