Year Prep Classroom News
WOW! We cannot believe how quickly the term has gone as we look toward Week 7. The students have been eagerly reading their take home readers and have quickly learnt the routine of changing them daily. Their progress, so far, has been wonderful to see.
We have begun our Literacy group rotations where the students work in small groups on tasks that are specifically tailored to their needs.
On Wednesday, students attended mass, had a sausage sizzle and participated in KABOOM sports with the two other schools in our Parish. They also had the opportunity to meet our new Parish Priest Fr Werner Utri.
On Fridays the Preps have been completing Respectful Relationships. Here is a snapshot of one of our lessons. Starting with calming Smiling Minds Meditation, and then we learnt all about how to be a bucket filler not a bucket spiller. We love filling our friends and families buckets, so it can fill our own at the same time.
Year 1/2 Classroom News
We have been doing so much learning in Year 1/2. We have enjoyed writing a whole range of different postcards pretending we have visited places such as the Yarravile Festival, the Zoo and even Luna Park. The students have been very engaged in writing about these different places and it has been wonderful to watch the growth in their self-confidence as writers. In maths we have been having fun investigating length. This week we measured and compared many different classroom objects, before measuring ourselves and our shoes! We have had a lot of fun comparing objects and learning how they are different in size and which items are longer or shorter than others. We really enjoyed the 3 schools event this week and we even saw some of our friends from the other schools. The sausages were delicious (thanks to the parents & staff for cooking!) and although it was a hot day, we really enjoyed the KABOOM sports.
We are extremely happy with how enthusiastic the students have been in changing their readers very frequently! We love that they are very independent & know the routine now and will selectg the books they are interested in to read at home.
Number Bust: 5/6 Maths
The 5/6 students have been working really hard on their mental maths strategies this week.
Their favourite task at the moment in number bust. A number is given to the students and they have to create as many written ways of getting to that number.
Some very creative and complex sums. Well done Year 5/6.
House Colour Competition
We have had our first successful House Colour Competition in Week 6, Running relays.
Well done to all teams for having a go and cheering on their team.
Round 1 Points...

GOLD: 130 points
GREEN: 125 points
BLUE: 115 points

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program 2024
Please read the following attachments from Ms Tiziana Scimone about the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program for 2024. There are some exciting developments happening with the Stephanie Alexander Garden Program. Ms Scimone has been working hard to establish some connections with the broader community. One of these is with an organisation called Farmer's Pick. Through this initiative you will be able to order weekly boxes of fresh fruit and veg that will be delivered to school for you to collect. Each week St. Augustine's will receive a box of producej to use in support of the kitchen garden program. Through doing this you also directly support Victorian farmers.

3/4C
Last week in our Kitchen Garden Program, 3/4C used their chopping and mixing skills to make a Greek Salad and Guacamole to try with pita bread. It was great to see Students following the recipes and bulding on their cutting and mixing skills before trying the new ingredients. The photos also include our previous lesson making yummy rice paper rolls. We look forward to our next lesson with Ms. Scimone.
