STEAM

Leanne Williams - Learning Specialist Engagement / STEAM Educator

As Term 1 draws to a close it is a good opportunity to reflect on what was achieved, and what we have planned for Term 2.

Year 6 STEAM Incursions

Earlier this month our Year 6 students attended one of two amazing incursions. The first was with 'Supporting and Linking Tradeswomen' (SALT). During this workshop students learnt 11 basic tools with a tradesperson.

The second incursion was facilitated by Inspire Robotics, called Game Console Engineering. Students built their own handheld consoles and then programmed games for them using Maker Code Arcade.

Please enjoy the games: Arcade Games

Prep

Whilst STEAM will officially kick off for our Prep students in Semester 2, next term the students will be conducting experiments linked to their Big Question, 'How does our body work and how do we take care of ourselves'.  These incredible experiments have been cultivated by Street Science through our exciting new partnership.

Year 1/2

Next term our Year 1/2 students will be introduced to the concept of engineering, planning and connecting basic geometric shapes using screws with wing nuts. This program involves giving students the opportunity to team up and engineer their own character of choice. Students will construct these characters and animate them using electrical servos!

Year 3/4

Whilst I was very disappointed to miss the inaugural Battle Bots competition, well done to the Year 3/4 Teachers for running an incredible afternoon.  Congratulations to all of the competitors.

Next term, students will be immersed in all things CYBER SECURITY.  They must protect their chickens (personal information) from the foxes (hackers) in the MineCraft EDU Cyber Castle Challenge. It will introduce them to a diverse range of cyber security role models and potential careers. By the end of this program, students will be able to make connections with how cyber security impacts their lives and their futures.

Year 5/6

The beginning of Term 2 will see the CAB Cohort vote on which 3D printed mascot will reign supreme.

STEAM and the Big Question will connect in Term 2 to provide the students with a transdisciplinary approach for the Year 5/6 Film Festival. Think green screens, lighting, sound effects (Foley), traliers, etc!
