School Council News

Mitch Tuc

The incoming School Council held its first meeting for Term 1 on 25th March. I am pleased to be serving as President for 2024, and would like to publicly thank and acknowledge our new parent members: Sophie Williams, Sarah Wade, Bec Miller, Meg Hondromatidis and Fiona Bull. Of course, we are also very fortunate to have Chris Simmonds and Jessie Rosengarten continuing from 2023. Volunteering for the School Council is a great way to contribute to the governance and enhancement of the school while ensuring that EPS retains its character and continues to excel.  I really look forward to working with this Council throughout the year to achieve these goals.

The Council works best when it can accurately reflect our community, and we encourage anyone to reach out to us if they have views or ideas which can be fed into this forum. And, if you can spare a few hours a term and would consider being a member of Council in the future, please speak to us or with Mr Portaro.

While the first meeting of the term involved a lot of administrative and procedural matters, a highlight was considering the Calendar of Events of the rest of the school year. We can expect to see the social activities ramping up from the start of Term 2. Council agreed that while every bit of fundraising is valuable and will ultimately benefit current and future students, our social calendar is just as important because of its role in building and strengthening our community and ensuring EPS is a fun and inclusive place for all. These events always depend on volunteers, and we appreciate in advance those people who put their hands up to help when the time comes, because those contributions really do help EPS thrive!

Lastly, we hope to soon see some of the first direct benefits of last year’s fundraising activities, with the new kiln to be installed, which is a timely reminder to again thank those people who truly went above and beyond to help our school in 2023.

Congratulations to staff and parents on what has been a successful (and quick!) Term 1, but special congratulations to all the students for what they’ve achieved in these first weeks and the new Prep cohort who seem to have adjusted to school life superbly well!

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Easter break!
