What a wonderful start to the year in level 4! Students have transitioned seamlessly and we admire the enthusiasm they bring every day to the classroom.
It was a delight to have met most of you at our 'Meet the Teacher' interviews on Monday. Thank you for making the effort to meet with us to discuss your child's 2024 learning journey.
Please let us re-introduce ourselves:

4C - Mrs Fennessy (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays) and Miss Van (Thursdays and Fridays)
Important Notice:
- Tuesday 19th March: Excursion to Scienceworks - Stay tuned for more details via Compass.
- Parents, please nominate yourself to your child's teacher, via their student diary, if you would like to be a Classroom Representative this year. Thank you.
Daily Reminders:
- School diaries - This is the most direct method of communication with your child's teacher and will be checked by the teacher daily. Parents can also send an email to the school email which will be forwarded to your child's teacher.
- Hats - At SEPS we strongly encourage students to adopt 'Sun Smart' practices. Sun Smart students protect themselves by bringing to school and wearing their hats at recess, lunch and for any activities that are outside. Students without hats will play in the sheltered areas of the yard.

Literacy:
We were very excited to begin our formal literacy sessions this week. On Monday, students completed their first 'Big Write'. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase their writing and most students were able to produce a fabulous narrative, recount, information text or persuasive piece. Each of our literacy sessions include reading, writing, spelling and of course, speaking and listening. In each session, Level 4 students will be developing their reading comprehension skills and also be developing their writing abilities. Over the next fortnight, we will be working on narrative writing as well as the reading skills of inferring and predicting. Many of our lessons will be based on our class serial as well as high quality texts to promote engagement and learning!
Maths:
Over the next fortnight, students will delve into the place value system, a cornerstone of numerical understanding. With a targeted focus on refining their abilities in renaming and regrouping numbers, students will enhance their proficiency in fundamental operations like addition and subtraction. These skills serve as versatile building blocks, empowering students to tackle a wide array of mathematical challenges with confidence and precision. Through interactive activities and collaborative learning experiences, students will sharpen their mathematical acumen and cultivate a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of mathematical concepts.
Inquiry:
To kick start Inquiry in Term 1, the Level 4 students will be focusing on what health means for them from a personal, social and community level. The students will be investigating what healthy habits they already practice, and how we can encourage more behaviours to take care of our physical, mental and social well being. We will be looking into how health is different for everyone, and how we can best promote the wellness of ourselves, others and our community!
What's been happening?
Swimming Carnival
WOW! We were blown away with the spirit and 'sportsperson'-ship our level 4 students displayed at their very first house swimming carnival. Students showed immense courage and bravery hopping into the pool and completing their chosen races. Students sang and belted out their house chants to support their fellow team mates. Well done to Wattyl on their glorious win and to every level 4 student that participated!
Have a great fortnight everyone. See you back here, same time, same place in two weeks' time!
The Level 4 Team,
Tilly, Robyn, Lisa and Matilda
