Wrapping up Week 3 and we are already getting into the swing of things. Students are becoming familiar with new expectations and routines, and we have spent much of this time setting ourselves up for success for the year ahead. Students have received their laptops, after waiting very patiently and have started putting their skills to good use. We have been familiarising ourselves with the sorts of skills that will support students who are undertaking NAPLAN. We also had the pleasure in meeting many of you this week, for our meet the teacher afternoon/evening. The insights you have shared with us are incredibly valuable. If you missed this opportunity, please contact your child's class teacher if there is any information you would like to pass on.
Class Representatives
Each class needs a class representative. If you are interested, please email the office to express your interest and availability. Thank you!
Literacy
One of the difficulties many writers face, is finding ideas to write about. Once a writer has a flash of inspiration, writing often then flows. Unfortunately, ideas rarely come easily and when we want them. Over the next couple of weeks, students will learn strategies to help them quickly find ideas from a word or picture prompt. As well as developing their imaginations, which is essential for creativity and storytelling, this useful skill will help students with prompt writing assessments.
Students will also be exploring adjectives, adverbs and pronouns, as well as reviewing comprehension strategies such as questioning and summarising.
Numeracy
For the next fortnight, students will be focussing on place value. With eagerness and curiosity, they are discovering the significance of each digit's position in a number and how it affects its value. Through engaging activities, interactive games, and hands-on experiences, our students are mastering the art of identifying ones, tens, and hundreds, and exploring the concept of thousands, and beyond!
Social Emotional Learning
The Respectful Relationships initiative teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. It also supports school leaders, educators and our school communities to promote and model respect and equality. Over the next few weeks, Level 3 students will be focussing on emotional literacy.
Activities will assist students to:
• Describe the influence that people, situations and events have on their emotions
• Investigate how emotional responses vary in depth and strength
• Understand how to interact positively with others in different situations
• Examine how success, challenge and failure strengthen personal identities.
Laptops
Thank you to all of the Grade 3 students for remembering to charge their laptops at home every night and return them to school the next day. Keep it up! 😊
Lunch Clubs
A reminder that the school has fabulous lunch clubs on offer. Please have a look at the schedule below. These are visible in each classrooms as well.
