Level 1: Connect
Welcome back!
This may be a little long but we want you to be informed about what we are doing at school to better strengthen the home- school connection. Thanks for reading!
A reminder that students need to be wearing a wide brimmed hat when they are out in the school yard. Students are able to leave their hats in their school locker is this is convenient for you.
A reminder that you need to pack cutlery if you order a lunch through the canteen that requires it.
Could you please ask your child to pop to the toilet before heading to the classroom. This saves them from missing out on important instruction at the beginning of the day. Thank you!
Readers will be coming home this week. In Level 1, it is an expectation that students read each night, either reading their decodable book that they bring home from school or having a book read to them. We use decodable books for students to help them become successful readers. Could you please try and record your child's reading in their school diary- or better still, get them to do it !
If you would like to put your name in the hat to be a Class Rep, please let your child's teacher know. Thank you!
Welcome to Week 3 of Term 1! Level 1 students have had a tremendous start to the year and we are all so proud of them. The way the come into the classroom in the morning so beautifully is a credit to them. They have quickly adjusted really well to our 'Restaurant Etiquette" eating style during lunch. We would all happily take these kids out dining with us!
A huge thank you to all parents who came in for the Meet the Teacher chats. As teachers we love meeting the parents of our students, it gives us such an invaluable insight into your child's world outside of school- so thank you from all of us.
We had our first session with our Level 6 buddies! It was a huge success! The Level 6 students had planned a Maths activity to do with their buddies based around measurement. It was a great atmosphere and terrific to watch the buddies getting to know each other.
During our Math lessons children have been getting familiar with the 100's chart. This week they got to put together a 100's chart puzzle which was a challenge, but all were successful!
📊 Mathletics is back! Your child's login details can be found in the back of their school diaries.
Our Maths focus over the next fortnight will be Place Value. Our base-ten system of numeration is a huge concept for our kiddies to wrap their minds around- ten 1s equals one 10, from right to left, while one 10 is equal to ten 1s from left to right. This idea underpins not only numeration but adding and subtracting. We have been playing some really fun games including "Get Out of My House", "Snakes and Ladders" and skip-counting by 2s "Buzz".
The digraphs we will be learning are sh as in ship and ch as in chair.
We have started 'Fluency Pairs' this week. Fluency Pairs is a reading strategy where two students read together to improve their reading fluency and accuracy. This method involves one student reading aloud while the other listens and provides support as needed. The roles are then reversed, with each student taking turns as the reader and the listener. Each student gets 1 minute to read and then they record the amount of words they have read. We then repeat the process each day with the same passage.
Our Mentor text for this fortnight is 'Wendy'. Wendy is a funny story about Wendy the super chook and her quest for fame. She does not want to be an ordinary chicken on a farm, she wants to be famous! It is a great book with a lovely story line and super illustrations.
Cooking with Mr Marco:We will be cooking with Mr Marco in weeks four (Next week, YAY!) and seven and would love to have some parent helpers. If you have a current working with children card or evidence that you have recently applied for one, please let the class teacher know. 1A will be cooking at 9-11:00 on Tuesdays, 1B will be 11:30-1:30 on Tuesdays as well. And 1C 11:30-1:30 on Thursdays.
Have a terrific fortnight!
Suzanne, Sean, Nishtha and Leon😊
