Morning Routine

Your children are doing a fabulous job each morning, getting more and more confident with each day!

The Foundation teachers aim to foster your child's independence and we encourage a quick drop off at the door for them to begin their morning routine. It's OK if they forget a step along the way - we are here to help!

Take Home Books (Hooray!)

  • We will commence 'Take Home Books' at the beginning of Week 4
  • On Mondays students will pick 4 BOOKS:
    •  2 Interest Books and 2 Decodable Books
      • Interest Books are books that can be read to your child - these are chosen to foster a love of reading
      • Decodable Books may have just pictures (for your child to 'read the pictures' to you), they may have sounds, words or sentences.
  • If your child brings the same book home, it is OK - we are focusing on maintaining this as a new habit.
  • The 4 books are to be kept for the week and changed on the following MONDAY.

Literacy

  • During Week 4: Students will begin to focus on learning the sounds (s,a,t)
  • Week 5: students will be learning the sounds (p,i,n)
  • The focus will be on responding to literature: Telling an oral story from pictures.
    • Paying close attention to sentence structure
    • Ordering events
    • Expressing ideas
    • Explaining understanding of the picture verbally

Numeracy

  • Number writing and formation
  • 'One more, one less'
  • 100 Days of School focus
  • Number fluency games and sharing

Level 5 Buddies

We are thrilled to have assigned at least one Level 5 buddy to each Foundation student! As the term goes on, activities will occur at least once a week with additional shared lunch eating times and exciting activities planned. Watch this space!
