From the Principal

Our greatest strength

Our Parents' and Friends' association (P&F) is one of the most important connection points for our community. Last Friday, this was wonderfully represented with the P&F Primary School sausage sizzle. The event was well attended with a great time of fellowship and fun. The connections with new families and staff are extremely important as we continue to leverage one of our greatest strengths; community.

Last Sunday, The Dads in the Great Southern (DIGS) hosted their first major event of the year on the Kalgan River. 25 dads and 40 students took part in a canoeing and kayaking afternoon with games, food and fun. This is one of the biggest turnouts ever for a DIGS event.

On Wednesday, the Years Ten to Twelve Interhouse Swimming Carnival was full of House spirit. Participation rates were up on previous years with students stepping out of their comfort zone to represent themselves and their House with courage and pride.

Today, we welcomed new and prospective families to the school for the first Tour Morning of the year. Attendance was high and a student panel consisting of School Captain Louis Cosh, Year Eight boarder Matilda Chitty and Year Six leader, Daniel Cruse spoke from the heart. They were proud of their school and shared their joy at the opportunities afforded to them at GSG.

The best quotes of the session for families considering boarding, ‘it will be ok’, ‘sometimes it is good for both child and parent to spend time apart’. Other quotes, ‘I love my school’, ‘I have been here for 13 years, I wouldn’t change a thing.’

Tomorrow is the first meeting of the Boarding Parent Committee. This is a great opportunity for families to connect and partner with the school to collectively build and grow new initiatives.

May we continue to develop meaningful relationships with each other, build strength in numbers at all community events and celebrate the very best of GSG in everything we do.

A quote from the Principal Commissioning address on Monday:

Today is not about me. Today is about us. The Great Southern Grammar Community. For we collectively hold the cultural, spiritual, and educational practices of this place. We are custodians of what has been and what is to come.

Today is a reminder that we are a part of something bigger than ourselves.

We reaffirm our commitment to this school. We honour the past; we celebrate the present and we begin to shape an exciting future. We awaken our senses to aspiration and rededicate ourselves to championing the young people in our care.

We remember that culture resides in the hearts and minds of each member of this school community, we are GSG.

COVID-19 cases

The School has a few COVID-19 cases at present, just a reminder, if your child is unwell or sick, please keep them at home.

Please find here the link for the Department of Health’s protocols on what to do if your child tests positive for COVID-19 or are a close contact.
