Prep Learning Reflection
Hello Prep Families! Hope you're having a wonderful Term 4 and enjoying the longer days and sunnier weather that has started to roll around!
Today we had a phenomenal day for our Spanish Fiesta celebrating Día de los Muertos! The students had an amazing time experiencing Mexican culture through art, dance, food and sport! The student's dress-ups and face paint looked incredible! Thank you to the extra time and effort you've spent helping to create the great atmosphere we all got to share today.
This term we will be taking the Preps on two excursions! The first is on the 12th of November and is a visit to the Brimbank Library in Sunshine for a tour. The second is on the 12th of December and is a trip to the Sun Theatre Yarraville! Attendance permission and final details including times and costs will be posted on Compass soon. Please keep an eye out and submit your child's attendance as soon as convenient. If there are any questions, requests or issues with payments please speak with your child's classroom teacher or to Vicky in the office.
Last week you should have received a form for the Semester 2 Report Questions. These questions allow you to find out the parts of your child's development and schooling experience that matter most to you, or that you are most curious about! Please have this form filled out and returned by Friday the 8th.
Over the next few weeks we'll be conducting assessments for our Semester 2/ End of Year Reports.
We encourage the students to be resilient, try their best and have a go! This busy time of the year can be an added element to the student's feelings. Be sure the check in with them and support them to unwind after their busy days, ready for the next!
During this time, their may be days where classes are split to allow teacher's to do full days of 1-on-1 assessments. This change in routine can impact how student's usually regulate throughout the school day. You can support students with these changes by ensuring they are at school earlier enough for them to prepare themselves for the day, and by encouraging the importance of their resilience and flexibility to support those around them.
Weeks 3 - 4
For Literacy, we've continued reading Eric Carle's catalogue and have continued to use his story and style to inspire our own Writing!
We've been continuing our daily reading routines and the students are working so well both with their Independent Reading, their Paired Fluency and when playing collaborative Reading games.
We've continued on with our SoundsWrite program and are currently working through Unit 10 in class! This unit practices single syllable words that have five or six sounds such as 'stand', 'stops', 'drink' and 'print'!
In Numeracy we're working on addition fact fluency, minus and solidifying our understanding of two digit numbers. The students have taken on the challenge incredibly well and their confidence with solving addition problems keep continuing to grow!
For Unit of Work the students have loved exploring and creating with designs and construction. We've read non-fiction texts on force and gravity and story books about imagination, innovation and problem solving!
