Unit of Inquiry
For our unit of inquiry ‘Living things adapt for life in their environment’, the students have been building on their knowledge of animals and their adaptations.
They have enjoyed learning about special features animals have to help them survive in their environment. They have all chosen an animal that they would like to find out more about and have been collecting and interpreting information about their animal in preparation for their final Learning Task of the year.
The students have been learning the features of a variety of habitats including rainforests, deserts, grasslands, oceans, fresh water and polar regions. They were able to apply this knowledge to complete a Venn Diagram outlining the similarities and differences between two of their chosen habitats.
They worked collaboratively with a partner to share their ideas and organise their information into the Venn Diagram.
Persuasive Writing
The students have also been working on persuasive writing. They shared their perspective on a variety of topics as a class discussion, then they completed a persuasive writing piece about whether zoos are good or bad.
It was great to hear arguments for both sides and to see how passionately they defended their opinions.
