Principal's Report
PYP Evaluation
We are excited to share some wonderful news with you – our school has successfully completed its Primary Years Programme (PYP) evaluation! This is a significant milestone in our journey of continuous improvement and a testament to the commitment and dedication of our entire school community.
The PYP evaluation process is a rigorous and thorough assessment that allows us to reflect on how well we are implementing the principles of the PYP and the effectiveness of our teaching and learning strategies. We are proud to say that we have received positive feedback and recognition for the hard work and collaboration that has shaped our educational environment.
This achievement would not have been possible without the outstanding support of students, parents, teachers, and student leaders who played pivotal roles in the evaluation process. Here’s how each group contributed to our success:
Students
Our students demonstrated an incredible understanding of the PYP framework, actively participating in the self-assessment activities and sharing their thoughts on how the program has helped them grow as learners and individuals. Their enthusiasm and reflections showcased their deep engagement in their learning journeys and highlighted the importance of the inquiry-based approach at the heart of the PYP.
Parents
A big thank you to all the parents who took the time to participate in interviews, providing valuable insights into how the PYP has impacted their children. Your feedback is essential in helping us continuously improve our programs. We deeply appreciate your ongoing support and the role you play in fostering a learning culture at home.
Teachers
Our dedicated teaching staff has been working tirelessly to align the curriculum with PYP standards, ensuring that our students receive a high-quality education. Teachers have collaborated closely to create inquiry-driven, engaging learning experiences, and their commitment to professional growth has been evident throughout the evaluation process. We commend their hard work and passion for inspiring young learners.
Student Leaders
We also want to recognise our student leaders, who took on active roles during the evaluation, guiding and supporting the PYP evaluators around the school and in our morning staff briefing. Their leadership, responsibility, and dedication were inspiring and an excellent example of the PYP’s emphasis on developing leadership skills and fostering a sense of community.
What’s Next?
As we move forward, we will continue to build on the strengths highlighted during the evaluation and address areas where there is room for growth. Our goal is always to create a learning environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of all our students. We look forward to sharing further updates and celebrating our successes together.
Mega Market
The Year 6 students planned organised and ran a hugely successful Market Day on 31 October, to raise money for their graduation.
This day was full of super savoury and sweet foods, delicious drinks, games and goods. There was amazing and games and prizes for all the students.
The smiles on the students were such a delight to see.
Congratulations Year 6 on such a wonderful day.
Cruffin Day!
On Tuesday 12 November, the Student Agency Team organized a ‘Cruffin Day’ for the whole school. The SAT did a wonderful job making posters, chatting to classes and speaking at Assembly.
The Bromley family delivered 500 Cruffins to school and we sold the lot!
This was a fundraising activity to raise money to improve the school grounds. The SAT are meeting with the PCO.s to determine where best to allocate the funds.
A HUGE thank you to Jen & Scott Bromley for baking and delivering the Cruffins to school.
The students are already asking if we can have another Cruffin Day next year!
Remembrance Day
Every year our Year 6 students conduct a moving and solemn Remembrance Day Service.
This year was no exception, please see the Year 6 page for photos of the service this year.
Year 6 Camp
Our Year students and staff returned from camp last week after a wonderful 3 days in Philip Island. The staff were thrilled with how the students conducted themselves during their time at camp. The children may have returned home a little weary but feedback from everyone connected with this special activity were extremely positive and proud of each of the children.
The children were a credit to their families.
It wasn’t only the staff that made comments about how good the children were but also the bus company and the owner of the lolly shop in Cowes. The bus company even took the time to email the school about our Year 6 students.
Comment from the owner of the bus company:
“This morning one of our senior drivers Brad Woodford took a group from your school down to Phillip Island Adventure Resort, he was so impressed by the students that he felt he need to write to our General Manager Andrew McAleer to advise him, knowing he would have contacts at the school we could forward this too. Andrew passed it onto me and here we are.”
Pupil Free Day & Curriculum Day
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week the staff explored the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM 2.0).
The VTLM 2.0 introduces an emphasis on the evidence about how students learn as the basis for effective teaching. The Elements of Learning is the process of human learning, based on cognitive science, neuroscience and education psychology. This Elements of Teaching represents the evidence-based teaching practices that most effectively support learning, planning, enabling learning, explicit teaching and supported evidence.
This was an extremely productive two days and a time for all staff to share their knowledge with each other as well as explore the new direction of the teaching model as well as research the Science of Learning and the 6 cognitive principles.
