The BUZZ
Welcome to Season TWO, episode 6 of...
THE BUZZ at Leighland
On today's episode, we chat with Dr McNab all about Playful Learning.
What is it and how are we implementing it at Leighland?
We believe that playful learning is a key element to bringing joy to learning, leading to more engagement and therefore better outcomes for our students.
We are excited to share this episode with you. Come behind the scenes and enjoy episode 6 of The Buzz.
ENROLMENTS 2025
A huge thank you to parents and guardians for submitting your ‘Enrolment Intention for 2025’ form via our EdSmart system. This is very valuable in assisting our planning for next year. If you haven’t had a chance to lodge your form yet, it would be greatly appreciated if you would do so as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can phone me on 6425 0999 or email m.mott@leighland.tas.edu.au if it is more convenient.
For parents and guardians who indicated that they are unsure if their child will be returning next year, it would be greatly appreciated if you would let me know once you have confirmed your plans.
If you are aware of a family who are considering enrolment for their child for next year, or beyond, I encourage you please to ask them to contact Nicole Gillam at our Burnie Campus 6430 9000 or n.gillam@leighland.tas.edu or myself so that we can organise them an information pack or a tour, to assist them in their decision making process. Information packs are also available from the office if you have someone in mind that you would like to pass them on to.

Pre Kinder
Our Pre Kinder sessions are in full swing on both campuses, bringing parents and little ones together for fun and learning. Each session is packed with engaging activities designed to foster creativity for the little ones, and build strong parent-parent connections. During morning tea, parents receive crucial information to better prepare them for the start of the 2025 school year. Thank you to all the families for partnering with us in their child’s academic journey!
Upper Primary Athletics Carnival
Recently, the upper primary students enjoyed an exciting Athletic Carnival at Penguin. The day was filled with friendly competition as students participated in various events, showcasing their talents in running, jumping, and throwing. With vibrant banners and plenty of cheers from classmates and teachers, the atmosphere was electric. Everyone displayed great sportsmanship, celebrating both individual achievements and teamwork. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to bond, challenge themselves, and create lasting memories in a fun, energetic environment.
Sam Burrows
A huge thank you to everyone who joined Christian Education National - CEN - Sam Burrows for our professional development training and parent workshop on The New Rise of Cultural Christianity. Together, we explored the intersections of faith and culture, sharing insights and strategies to navigate these important conversations in our families and communities. The engagement and dialogue were truly enriching! Let’s continue to foster understanding of the importance of Christian education and what it means to teach with purpose in this contemporary age.
New Uniform Store Announcement
We are excited to announce that Leighland Christian School has formed a partnership with Midford to provide our school uniform for sale directly from their East Devonport store (1/59 Wright Street), and families will also be able to order online at the Leighland Online Uniform store.
The Leighland Christian School uniform will be available both in-store at Midford and online from Friday 29 November. Please see the attached Welcome letter from Midford which sets out their trading hours.
The last day for purchasing uniform from Ulverstone or Burnie campus is Friday 22 November to allow a stock-take and handover of our current stock supply to Midford. We will keep a limited supply of hats at school during the summer months, and a limited supply of preloved clothing. All other purchases are to be made directly from Midford. Purchase of uniform via our Qkr app has now ceased.
Benefits to our parents and students
- Midford uniform shops are designed to provide the most welcoming and comfortable retail experience possible for parents and students. They will offer both online and in-store shopping options in a modern and inviting retail space.
- Midford provide a full range of uniform items eg socks, school shoes, stockings, backpacks and accessories - a ‘one stop shop’!
- Midford are not limited by storage space – as we are at school! They have a warehouse in Sydney where they store bulk quantities of uniform and therefore, will provide greatly enhanced stock supply and delivery times.
- They are open half days on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Plenty of parking is available and they will offer extended trading hours during the back-to-school sales period.
- Midford has a booking system for new families or families with children who have sensory issues for back-to-school sales.
- The Leighland Christian School Online Uniform store will go live on Friday 29 November. There will be three pick-up/delivery options. These include pick up in-store, delivered via courier to home or business address for a $15.00 delivery fee (free shipping for orders over $150) or delivered to Ulverstone and Burnie campuses once per week. An online flyer will be sent out to the school community once the online shop is live and ready for orders.
