Sport & PE
Students from Hayley’s class have been developing their leadership skills and building the sense of community within our school in their role as ‘Junior PE leaders’ this term. They have been leading activities with Anna’s and Ellen’s classes in PE that help the younger students to improve their skills in kicking, catching, running and jumping. They’ve been doing a super job in teaching and motivating their peers and the younger students have loved the games and interactions with the 5/6s.
Division Athletics - Wodonga
Congratulations to the 17 MBPS students that participated in last Friday's Division Athletics Carnival as part of the Upper Kiewa Cluster team. Five of our students finished either first or second in their event(s) and, as a result, have advanced to compete in tomorrow's Regional Carnival. We wish the best of luck to Annabelle, Eli, Eloise, Luella and Sophie!
Some of our students who attended division athletics last Friday would like to tell you about how their day went.
Goldie - I did triple jump but I'm not sure what I came. I also did the relay with Gen, Queenie and Lulu. Gen started the race and it was a very fast start. She passed the baton to me. I felt nervous but tried my hardest. I then gave the baton to Queenie and Lulu finished our race. We were all very proud of our efforts.
Gen - I competed in high jump, the 200mt sprint and the team relay. In high jump I was most proud when I didn't hit the bar. The first time I tried to jump I ran in towards the mat and then launched myself over the bar. But the other three times I hit the bar so unfortunately I got eliminated. In the sprint I had to line up. I was in the second lane. I started with a strong lead but another girl overtook me easily - she was a very strong runner. Overall it was a hot, sunny day and we were all proud of our efforts.
Queenie - On Friday I competed in the 800mt, the long jump and the relay. In the 800mt I came 10th . It was a tough race - the girl in front of me raced hard and it was difficult to get around her. In the long jump I came 4th and in the relay we worked really well as a team by all trying our best. We shouted to support each other and worked out a good strategy to give us the best opportunity to compete. We had fun and were very proud to represent our school.
Ferdi - I did the 1500mt and the 800mt running races on Friday and I came 5th in both races. In the 1500mt I led the pack for 2 whole laps. It was a tough race because there were lots of really strong runners. My running strategy was to start fast to get the front position so that I could lead by a lot and hopefully win the race. During the race I think I started too strong and ran out of a little gas... I was a little disappointed but learnt that next time I might pace myself differently. In the 800mt we all lined up at the start. We had two people in each lane. You had to stay in your lane. You could only stay in your lane until you got to the discus net and then you could cut across into the inside lane to race. I was coming 2nd for 1 ½ laps and then everyone started sprinting. It was a really fast finish and I felt exhausted but happy about my efforts.
Peter - I did the relay and shotput on Friday at the Athletics. In the shotput I was versing kids 10-20cm taller than me with LOTS of big muscles! I came last but I tried my very best. The shotput was heavy and cold. My strategy was to get a good run up and launch it as hard as I could without injuring myself. You have to hold to shotput close to your chin, neck or shoulder. In the relay our team was Harry, me, Ferdi and Eli. Ferdi started the race and we were coming in second. Then it was my turn and I ran as fast as I could to Harry. He was the next racer. Harry was very quick as well and passed the baton to Eli who finished off our race very fast. We all yelled and shouted support, and we were very proud of our teamwork. We came second-last but I'm happy we didn't come last and we represented our school to the best of our abilities.
Andie - On Friday I competed in the shotput. I'm not sure what I came. When it was my turn there were lots of people from Mount Beauty Primary School calling out my name and saying 'Go Andie you can do this'. As I stood at the curved line the first time I threw and pushed the shotput it wasn't very big. It went out of the line. So the next time I got a bit further and I also knocked down two of the markers. While we were waiting for our turns, the boys were doing their running races and we barracked for them. Harry and Mac passed us and we shouted 'You can do this!' Overall, we had a great day and I loved that my sisters and my mum came to support me.
Xander - I came 5th in the 100mt sprint at the athletics on Friday. The other competitors looked very fast. In the 200mt sprint I got 3rd and was really proud of my race. I ran in lane 5 and it was a fast race. As I came around the corner, I looked at the ground and focuses on where I was running and pushing myself to go faster. We didn't have a relay team but I barracked for Harry, Ferdi, Eli and Peter. Go Mount Beauty!
