Dear Marian Catholic College Community,
Welcome to Term 4!
The term is already well underway with HSC exams in their second week. Exams have gone well so far. We continue to keep all students completing HSC exams in our thoughts, prayers and hearts. Thank you also to Presiding Officer Mrs Kate Norris and her team who have been working tirelessly to ensure that the students have the best possible opportunity during this time.
Today is World Teachers’ Day. This is a day where, across the world, people take a moment to pause and reflect on the important work of teachers and educators. The work of the teacher is essential in our society, providing children and young people with skills, learning and opportunities for success in life. We acknowledge and celebrate all teachers and educators at Marian. Thank you for the wonderful work that you do and the profound difference you make for students on a daily and weekly basis.
Even at the start of term, the College event calendar is full! Since returning last week, six students in Year 10 attended the UN Day of the Girl Child Workshop hosted by the Soroptimist Society and Burn Bright and supported by Wellbeing Officer Mrs Susan Hone. Mrs Hone and a number of students from across the College also participated in the fantastic Deadly Thinking Youth Workshop facilitated by CareSouth and the National Wellbeing Alliance.
Our cricket teams competed in the Downie Shield, winning against St Francis in the first round but were not as successful against Kildare Catholic College. A number of eligible students were given the opportunity to participate in the NSW TAFE YES Program, attending workshops in Hair, Beauty and Construction. Teaching and Learning for Term 4 commenced smoothly, while teachers also worked tirelessly to finalise reports and assessment for Year 11 students due this week.
The College welcomed Ms Madeleine Ponferrada as a permanent member of staff this term. Ms Ponferrada will be teaching in Religious Education, HSIE and Creative and Performing Arts Faculties. Ms Ponferrada’s teaching qualifications are from the University of New South Wales and she has moved to Griffith from South Western Sydney. Also joining our staff while they complete 4 week teaching work placements are Mr James Brown (PDHPE) and Mr Simon Tapnell (TAS).
The new College website should now be available to parents and the wider community. The ‘Learning and Teaching’, ‘Wellbeing’ and ‘Faith’ tabs provide a great deal of useful information ready to hand for parents and the broader community. For more information on school policies and guidelines please look at the ‘Our School’ tab for the ‘Policy and Documents’ link. Information has been included on Attendance, Behavioural Support Guidelines and the school’s Anti-Bullying Guidelines. MCC school guidelines align with policies governing Catholic Education-Diocese of Wagga Wagga (CEDWW). All CEDWW policies are also available on this link.
In conclusion, we wish students, families and staff a great term of learning ahead. Our quote this week is sourced from our Marist founders:
To raise children, we must love them and love them equally.
