A GEM Chat consists of 2-5 minute activities/conversations that you can have individually or as a whole family, at different points throughout the day (whenever works best for you). Each newsletter will provide a different chat prompt. Please see below this week's chat:
Working on empathy helps us to identify, understand and feel what another person is feeling. When we show empathy or we do something kind for someone else our brain releases oxytocin. This leads to increasing our self-esteem/confidence, energy levels, positivity and overall happiness.
As a family, choose an act of kindness from the list below that you would like to do for a neighbour or family friend. Each family member can select one to commit to, or you can choose to do one together.
Feel free to do more than one and spread the kindness even further!
Report back to each other in one week and share how your acts of kindness were received, and how doing them made you feel.
Every night at dinner, have each person thank another family member for something they’ve done or said today, or give another family member a compliment.
Maria is the co-designer of Resilience First Aid, an internationally recognised two-day certification program, which teaches the neuroscience of resilience (Ryan took sooooo many notes).
We discuss with Maria the relationship between biology and behaviour, and the six domains of resilience. Getting technical, we delve into the negatives of screen time (hello darkness our old friend) and the ridiculously positive benefits of doing stuff with other people.
So join us as we get started on building our resilience toolbox, practice breathing like a baby AND co-regulate like it’s no one’s business.

Our new PBIS blitz for week 4 and 5 will be ‘Packing away the sports equipment’
The teachers have noticed that there is sports equipment left out in the following areas:
We are such a lucky school to have lots of sports equipment to play with at break times. We have a huge sports trolley with so much equipment in it.
If you take anything from the tub, it is your responsibility to return it when you have finished playing with it!!!
Every piece of sports equipment needs to be returned at the end of each break.
This is being responsible and also showing respect for the school’s equipment.
Please don’t leave it up to someone else to clean up the sports equipment.
Being interested and supportive of a child’s play helps themto feel connected, valued and accepted. Having fun together during play time enables children to experience pleasure and joy.
