Community partnerships in a primary school setting are collaborative relationships between the school and various community members, organisations, or businesses. These partnerships aim to support and enhance the educational experience and well-being of students, staff, and families by leveraging local resources, expertise, and networks.
At St Patrick’s these partnerships are mutually beneficial, providing real-world learning opportunities for students, increasing community involvement, and supporting local organisations' engagement with young learners. Being involved in community partnerships is a highlight for our students at St Patrick’s.
Here is some of the community partnerships we are involved with at St Patrick’s:
What does each community partnership include?
Kyabram Mens Shed
St Patrick’s Primary School is thrilled to partner with the Kyabram Men’s Shed, bringing invaluable learning experiences to our students. This collaboration enables students to learn hands-on skills, such as woodworking, gardening, and basic tool use, under the guidance of skilled mentors. Beyond practical skills, the partnership fosters positive relationships across generations, giving students insights into community values, teamwork, and resilience. The Men’s Shed members share their expertise and stories, enriching our school’s curriculum with real-world learning. We are grateful for this community bond that helps students gain new skills and connect meaningfully with their community.
Tongala Sewing Group- Tongala Community House
St Patrick’s Primary School proudly partners with the Tongala Sewing Group, enriching our students’ learning through creative, hands-on experiences. With the support of the talented Tongala sewers, students engage in projects that teach sewing basics, pattern-making, and the value of craftsmanship. This partnership fosters intergenerational connections, as students learn patience, precision, and the joy of creating something from scratch. Through this collaboration, students also gain an understanding of sustainable practices by repurposing fabrics and materials. We are grateful for the Tongala Sewing Group’s dedication, which brings valuable skills and life lessons to our students in a meaningful way.
Tongala Aged Care
This partnership allows students to engage in storytelling, games, and art projects with residents, fostering respect, empathy, and a sense of community across generations. Both students and residents benefit as they share experiences, laughter, and learning, enriching one another’s lives. These interactions provide students with valuable life skills, while residents enjoy companionship and engagement. We are grateful for this special bond with the Tongala Aged Care Centre, which nurtures compassion and connection.
Tongala Community House- Community Cafe
St Patrick’s Primary School is excited to partner with the Tongala Community Café, offering students a unique opportunity to learn about hospitality, community service, and teamwork. Through visits and collaborative projects, students experience real-life applications of cooking, customer service, and healthy eating. The partnership teaches them valuable life skills and highlights the importance of supporting local businesses. Engaging with the café’s staff also fosters students’ confidence and communication skills, giving them a sense of accomplishment as they contribute to meaningful community initiatives. We are grateful for the Tongala Community Café’s involvement in creating a hands-on, community-focused learning experience.
Tongala Kindergarten Visits
Tongala Kindergarten community partnership included weekly visits, creating a nurturing connection between our students and young learners. During these visits, St Patrick’s students support and engage with kindergarteners through storytelling, play, and art activities, fostering a sense of responsibility and leadership. This partnership allows students to develop empathy, patience, and communication skills as they act as positive role models. For the kindergarteners, it’s an opportunity to learn from “big kids” while building confidence in a friendly environment. We value this partnership with Tongala Kindergarten, which strengthens community bonds and enriches early learning experiences.
Kyabram and Tongala Health
St Patrick’s Primary School is grateful for our partnership with Kyabram Health, which brings vital health-focused programs to our students. Through initiatives like Healthy Habits, students learn about nutrition, exercise, and mental wellness, empowering them to make positive lifestyle choices. Kyabram Health also supports disability awareness and inclusion programs, fostering empathy, understanding, and respect. These initiatives encourage students to develop lifelong health habits and a compassionate outlook on diversity. We are thankful for Kyabram Health’s commitment to enhancing our students’ well-being and awareness, providing knowledge and experiences that nurture a healthy, inclusive school community.
