Yaama,
A huge THANK YOU and congratulations to the students that performed at the NSW Catholic School Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Conference last week. I had many people come to me and say how wonderful and powerful the dance was that they performed. Thank you to the parents for the many notes and early morning practices. Your support is greatly appreciated!!!
Another huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Stacie Power for accompanying us to our many practices and helping make the skirts for the girls. Your hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed.
At the conference 5 of our Year 4 boys were lucky enough to be selected to participate in a workshop hosted by Greg Inglis. The boys completed some football drills, passing and running and concluded with a conversation and booklet about mental health and making sure that they check in with their friends to make sure they are OK!
The artwork that was completed by the First Nations Students last term was revealed at the Conference Gala dinner. The artwork title is "Yurrandaalli in the Mirri" which translates in Gamilaraay language to 'Goanna in the Stars'.
This term we are very fortunate enough to have Matty Nean from the Opportunity Hub come and work with our Stage 3 students teaching them Gamilaraay language. This program will run until Week 9.
Today, Matilda Craig, Harrison Roberts, Kaylee Bray and Miss Taggart are on the train to Sydney with all the other Wii Gaay students for their next Learning Hub. They are staying at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence where they will complete their Learning Hub and have an on-country experience on Thursday, destination unknown. The students will then present their pieces of work they have developed and say goodbye to those students in Year 6 as this is their final Wii Gaay Learning Hub. The Wii Gaay students will then return home on Friday via the train.
Yaluu
