Last week we welcomed the acclaimed Australian Children's author, Coral Vass to Kingswood Primary School.
Coral presented a wonderful talk to the Prep to Year 2s, the Years 3 and 4, then a Writers Workshop with the Years 5 and 6 students.
She read a couple of her books and talked about how she finds her inspirations for creating a book. It was fun to see a couple of students get up and be a part of the storytelling too.
If you would like to purchase one of Coral Vass's books, please see the flyer in this newsletter. Orders must be in by August 25th.
I would like to congratulate Sophie from 4S, for being the winner of the Book Fair competition. I hope Sophie enjoys her $60 worth of books from the Fair.
Currently the school library has all the wonderful books on display that the students made in their classrooms. They have each written a page in their classroom book and have made a huge effort to produce some fabulous work. There is a book for each grade, and I welcome all parents and students to come have a look at them. You can pop in before and after school or at times during the day when the library is free.
Our Book Week Dress Up Day was a colourful, fun-filled day, where students and staff enjoyed dressing up as a book character. It was wonderful to see such creativity and also some simple and effective ideas. One of my favourites was Jack (1E) as Ned Kelly.
The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) have announced the winners of the Shortlisted Books for 2024. I have included a full list of the Winners in this newsletter.
I am delighted that the winning Picture Book is "Timeless". A beautiful book which follows the themes of family, quality time and community.
As Book Week comes to an end, our celebrations of books and reading continues, with the junior and senior reading challenges. Keep reading everyone. Being a consistent and capable reader is one of life's most important skills.
Happy Reading.
