Year 2 Echidnas and Platypuses
Year Two have enjoyed the adventures of the Water Corporation Incursion, 100 Days of School, Book Week and the St Helena’s Primary School 25th Anniversary celebrations in Term Three.
At the Water Corporation Incursion we learnt about the Noongar Seasons and the ways Aboriginal people moved across the Perth region from the behind the hills, along the Swan River to the coast and made use of food and shelter sources in each area.
At the RAC incursion we learnt about calling 000 in an emergency, road safety and analysed an accident, working out what types of behaviours contributed to the problem.
We celebrated 100 days of school by having a pizza party! Before the big day, we composed a question that would allow us to collect the data we needed to find out what pizza ingredients we needed to purchase from the supermarket. Pepperoni was the most popular pizza topping!
For the special celebration of the school’s 25th anniversary, the Platypus class ran a target throw competition and the Echidna class sprayed coloured hair spray. They felt like real hairdressers!
Finally, Book Week was a blast as we dressed up as our favourite characters. Check out some of the costumes!
Learning Support
The wonderful team in Learning Support have been busy doing what they do best, supporting the students. This term, the team have been going into classrooms and running Sounds Write groups alongside the teachers. It has been wonderful to see all the everyone engaged in the process and learning lots of sounds along the way.
Macqlit continues to be a focused time of sounds, words, reading and writing and it is wonderful to watch the progress of the students and watch their confidence build within these areas. In particular, they are developing a love of reading and that is what everyone wants to hear and see.
The creative Learning Support educators wanted to celebrate the students and their strengths and so created a Wonder Wall. The students were able to enhance their image with statements about themselves and what their strengths. They love to come into the classroom and admire themselves.
