Darwinia House

Being a House Captain of Darwinia this year has been an incredible responsibility, and it has taught us valuable leadership skills and life lessons. We’ve had the opportunity to plan upcoming events, ensuring they ran smoothly and successfully.

One of the most rewarding parts of this year has been getting students from Year 7 all the way up to Year 12 involved in House activities. We saw a significant increase in participation in both the Athletics and Swimming Carnivals compared to last year. In fact, one of our Year 12 students, Fahim S, set a record for freestyle swimming with an amazing time of 29.54 seconds—something that hasn’t been done in a long time!

Before our charity events, we brought together many students to help with House Chorales, which highlighted the teamwork and House spirit within Darwinia. We rehearsed twice a week, and we would like to extend our appreciation to all the students who participated and contributed to these efforts.

In terms of fundraising, we organised several successful charity events, including selling pizzas, hot chocolate, ice poles and ice cream cones. These efforts raised nearly $2,000, which will be donated to Monash Children's Hospital. The incredible generosity of our students and teachers truly made a difference!

We also embraced our cultural diversity during Culture Week, with me, Arifa N, and friends proudly representing Afghan culture by performing Afghan dances, alongside other cultural performances which were phenomenal. It was an unforgettable celebration of our heritage and unity.

We also want to take this opportunity to appreciate Mr Greaves and Mrs Confait, who guided us and supported us through all these events. Their help was invaluable and we couldn’t have achieved this without their encouragement.

To all the students of Darwinia: we have truly enjoyed our time as House Captains and we would encourage every one of you to take on leadership roles whenever you get the opportunity. It’s an experience that will teach you so much, and you’ll make memories you’ll cherish forever. We will certainly miss all our Darwinians!
