Dear Families,
Our newsletters have been full of so many celebrations recently, it is wonderful to be able to reflect on more highlights in this newsletter as well. This week has seen the community of St Therese's enjoying our annual Book Week. Book Week is such an important week on our calendar and brings so much joy to our community.
We began the week with the opening of the Book Fair - I still love buying and reading a new book and it is wonderful that so many of you visited to purchase new books with the children. I have spoken to many parents this week who have been shopping and left the school with armfuls of goodies for the children to enjoy. I don't know how much money we have raised yet but it is certainly looking positive. We receive a percentage of the money that is spent and are able to put that to good use by purchasing new books for the library.
We chose to host our Grandparents Liturgy in conjunction with our Book Character Dress Up day as well. The children were so excited as they filled the hall in their magnificent costumes. Our focus was on our special visitors to begin with, thanking our grandparents for all they do for the children and this prayerful time was led with confidence and reverence by our Grade 1 students. The beautiful singing at the end of the liturgy was the perfect way to wrap it up too.
The effort that our parents and children went to for costumes was amazing. There were a number of children dressed as Where's Wally, I'm sure they got tired of hearing calls of 'Found you!' throughout the day and just as many Harry Potters. After all this time, I love the fact that so many children still love Harry Potter! There were a few Little Miss and Mr Men and a great number of super heroes.
Our staff certainly rose to the occasion too. The middle staff played 'Where is the green sheep?' with the school and the senior staff made a beautiful bunch of Rainbow Fairies. Our grade 1/2 staff delighted the children with their representation of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and the Foundation team entertained with their Minion outfits. I'm sure you heard that Mrs Hinds made quite the formiddable Cruella de Vil too! I can't wait for next year already.
The day wrapped up with our Story Time and Cocoa evening. Thank you to the families who joined us for this, we introduced the evening last year and received great feedback so it is definitely standing event on our calendar moving forward.
I'd like to take this opportunity to let you know that I will be on leave from Wednesday 28th August until the end of term. I will be travelling overseas to visit my family, it has been 8 long years and I am very much looking forward to catching up with them. Michelle Hinds will be acting principal in my absence with Rosie Osthmuller assisting her in the role of acting deputy principal.
Stay safe and well,
