Book Week and Book Fair

17th - 23rd of August

During Book Week, held from August 17th to 23rd, we celebrated with great enthusiasm and creativity. We kicked off the week by exploring shortlisted books in the library, setting the stage for a series of exciting classroom activities and artwork projects.

Many of our students read the book The Concrete Garden by Bob Graham and were inspired to create their own concreate garden around the school.

Dress-Up Day, which took place on Tuesday, August 20th, was a highlight of the week. Each year level had the opportunity to showcase their imaginative costumes during the Book Week parade, sharing their favourite book characters with the entire school. The parade was a joyful display of creativity, and it was wonderful to see the students' enthusiasm and the variety of costumes.

The Scholastic Book Fair, held from August 16th to 22nd, was a resounding success. This biennial event drew significant interest from students and parents alike. Each class visited the fair twice: first for a Viewing Day, where students filled out Wish List sheets to share with their families, and then for a Buying Day, where they had the opportunity to purchase items from their Wish Lists.

We extend our gratitude to our parent-helpers Desiree, Ana, Sue, Mandy, Kitty, Leah, Bree, Joanna, Jill, Ly, Christine, Niloopa, Sharon, Helen, Samudini,  Sabrina and Cecilia. The Book Fair would not have been ran as smoothly without your support!

The proceeds from the fair were instrumental in supporting our school and enriching our library resources.

A big thank you to our librarian, Mimi Chavarria, and our Book Week Committee for their creativity, hard work, and dedication in making this celebration a memorable success. Overall, Book Week and the Scholastic Book Fair were both highly successful, fostering a love of reading and community spirit.

Book Week Reflection by 1 Jankovic

We celebrated book week by reading the story Paper-Flower Girl by Mateja Jager. It is a story about being brave and following your dreams even when others don’t believe in you. We created a paper flower artwork to celebrate the main character's courage.

I have 3 dreams but I will pick one. I would like to be a gardener because I like flowers and vegetables quite a lot. If I were a gardener I would be happy.

Ellie

I think the paper flower girl was brave because she kept doing what she loved. My dream is to go to outer space and when I come back, I will teach everyone what I have learned about moon rocks and minerals. I will bring my sister a gift from outer space.

Philip

I want to study rocks and collect them. I think rocks are shiny and interesting.

Ayesha

I felt sad for the paper flower girl because the giant said that her flowers were not nice. When I grow up I want to be a lot of things, I can’t choose.

Krystal

The giant should not have said mean things to the paper flower girl. When I grow up I want to be a hairdresser because I practise doing hair at home and love it.
