Happy Father’s Day

In preparing to write this newsletter I wanted to know what the origin of Father’s Day was and I discovered that the present day celebration of Father's Day goes back to the time of the Middle Ages when the celebration of fatherhood was observed. Father's Day was not celebrated in other countries outside the Catholic traditions until the beginning of the 20th century. Father's Day is celebrated across the world with the objective of honouring the contribution of fathers in our lives. It is a day which celebrates the endless efforts, initiatives and contributions of all fathers.

A Prayer for Fathers

St. Joseph, guardian of Jesus and husband of Mary, you passed your life in loving fulfillment of duty.  Kindly protect those who trustingly come to you. You know their aspirations, their hardships, their hopes. They look to you because they know you will understand and protect them. You too knew trial, labour and weariness. But amid the worries of material life your soul was full of deep peace and sang out in true joy through intimacy with God's Son entrusted to you and with Mary, his tender Mother. Assure those you protect that they do not labour alone. Teach them to find Jesus near them and to watch over him faithfully as you have done.

Amen
