In Our Classrooms
BOOK WEEK
Thank you for your support of Book Week at HGC this year. Our Book Week Character Parade was a huge success and we were thrilled to be joined by Member for Yan Yean, Lauren Kathage to hand out our awards for the Book Week competitions.
The Scholastic Book Fair was a popular spot throughout last week. Together, we sold $7047 worth of books and will receive over $2000 in literacy resources from Scholastic for our College.
PRIME MINISTER'S SPELLING BEE
The school round of the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee is now over and we're thrilled to announce that, for the first time in our college’s history, we have students promoted to the State Finals. Congratulations to Isabel and Fletcher in Year 4! They will compete in the State Finals this week for a chance to win prizes for themselves and the college.
VICTORIAN PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now complete! 177 students have completed the challenge and we have collectively read and registered 7,322 books. The top-rated book as judged by our students was Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
Keep up the great work!
INDIGENOUS LITERACY DAY
Wednesday the 4th of September was Indigenous Literacy Day. This is an event we recognise each year at HGC as it promotes Indigenous literacy and helps provide culturally relevant books and learning resources to children and families living in remote Communities across Australia. This year’s theme was: Be a Proud Voice for Country.
Each year level recognised this event by watching a livestream of the celebration at Sydney Opera House, reading Indigenous literature and completing follow-up activities.
