Dear Families,

How good have the Paris Olympics been?

It has been a wonderful spectacle with all the Australians doing their best.  I'm sure you agree that this Olympics  has been another example of sportsmanship and camaraderie, with athletes from around the world embodying the true Spirit of the games. Competitors have consistently shown respect for an another celebrating victories and consoling losses with grace.

Moments of mutual support and unity have indeed transcended national boundaries, reflecting the Olympic ideal of bringing people together through Sport. It has been a memorable celebration of human connection friendship and achievement. No doubt the Paralympics which begins on August 28th  until Sunday 8th September will be the same.

Here at St John Vianney's I hope  our families  have enjoyed seeing some of the events and  this has given rise for terrific conversations around the important concepts of 'doing our best, achievement, persistence, resilience, sacrifice and sportsmanship'.

I hope that our students enjoyed their Potato Olympics last Friday!  It was a most successful and fun filled day Thank you to Emma May and all our staff  for their  organisation in ensuring a fun filled day!  See Photos attached

 From Australian Catholics....

"Over the past two weeks at the Olympics, we’ve seen the joy that’s possible when people of various cultures and faiths come together in a spirit of celebration and peace. Let us this week then pray for all countries embroiled in wars, but also for those countries who have become divided because of politics, religion, and fear for the future.

'O God, we pray for peace among nations, peace in our communities and peace in our hearts, through your Son and our Saviour Jesus Christ'. Amen

Swimming

Year 1-6 swimming began on Monday at Haileybury in Keysborough. The students have been placed in groups and will swim each day - (not Tuesday), this week and next.

From all reports the swimming program has begun very smoothly.  The swimming instructors have been excellent and the organisation of the program and transport has begun well.

Please note:

If your child becomes unwell and is unable to swim, they are either to stay at home or have a medical certificate. Please bring this certificate and show the class teacher.

Bullying No Way: National week of action12 to 16 August 2024

The theme for 2024 is 'Everyone belongs'.

When we all feel like we belong, bullying struggles to find a place. It's about embracing who we are, respecting everyone's differences and standing up together against unkindness.

Belonging means we all have a role in preventing bullying. We're encouraged to speak up and create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected, and our voices are heard and valued.

Resilience Project Award

This week Liam Smith won an award for Gratitude for your inspirational leadership supporting our Junior Students at the Kaboom Day.

 Social Justice Partnerships

Isn't it good to learn from one another and to know we can make a positive difference.

Our Partnership with John Hannah House is a brilliant initative which brings much joy and learning to both our students and the residents. We meet fortnightly on a Monday where residents and students from one class  mingle and converse.  Most of these gatherings are at school but we will sometimes go  across to John Hannah House - (Central gathering Space).

On Monday, 1-2 DS completed an Olypmic Mascot activity! Lots of fun was had!
