A  Well-Deserved Break: Students Enjoy Coffee & Cake at Eat Botanic

After weeks of hard work and dedication, our students took some time out for a relaxing and well-earned outing to Eat Botanic, a charming local café nestled in the heart of the community. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and delicious treats, Eat Botanic offered the perfect spot for a leisurely morning break filled with good conversation, laughter, and, of course, some indulgent coffee and cake!

The café's milkshake rage proved to be a hit, as students and staff sipped their way through a range of beverages. Paired with beautifully presented slices of cake—hedgehog slice, chocolate brownie, and classic carrot cake—it was a moment to savor. The caramel slice was a huge hit, with some students rating it 10/10 and one rating it 12/10 (now that's a good review!).

The students have been making coffees for staff and visitors at Anson Street School, with some finding work experience and employment in the booming Orange hospitality scene. It must have been a nice change for the students to be on the receiving end of some prompt and friendly service!

The outing to Eat Botanic was not just a celebration of their hard work, but also a reminder of the importance of balance—taking time to unwind and enjoy the small pleasures amidst their busy schedules, especially as the end of term grows closer.

Thank you to the team at Eat Botanic who dealt with our bombardment of orders as well as possible, making 24 drinks in a short period is no easy task (our baristas know that too!).

Transport for NSW Work Experience Draws to a Close

For the past 10 weeks, Riley, Bodhi, Tom and Tully have taken part in a valuable work experience opportunity with Transport for NSW, gaining firsthand insights into the civil construction industry. Throughout this experience, they’ve impressed their supervisor with their exemplary performance, dedication to learning new skills, and willingness to take on challenging tasks such as heavy labor and adhering to strict safety procedures.

From concreting and filling potholes to slashing and mowing, these students didn’t shy away from the physical demands of the job. Their commitment to both teamwork and individual tasks was consistently praised, making them stand out as enthusiastic and capable participants.

"Their dedication and eagerness to learn have been nothing short of outstanding. They tackled each challenge with a positive attitude and showed a strong understanding of safety protocols," said their supervisor at Transport for NSW, who was happy to provide the participants with a written reference to include in their ever-growing professional portfolio.

The students, too, found the experience deeply rewarding. With each day bringing new tasks and responsibilities, they’ve developed a greater appreciation for the complexities of civil construction. For a few, the learning hasn't just been a temporary experience—they’re hoping that this is just the beginning.

"I’ve learned so much and had a great time. I really hope I get the chance to come back and keep learning more about this industry," shared one student.

This experience has not only given our students hands-on skills but has also opened the door to potential future opportunities in the civil construction field.
