MACSEYE

This week, our theme has been all about education, and it was a wonderful one! Our children were deeply engaged in learning about friendship, safety, and caring for our planet. It was a beautiful reminder that true education is not just about what we learn, but about how we learn together as a community.

We spent time talking about what it means to be a good friend, playing kindly, helping one another, and listening. It was heartwarming to hear the children share their own ideas about friendship. In the spirit of education as the practice of freedom, we encouraged them to see their relationships not as rules to follow, but as opportunities for mutual respect and growth.

Our aftercare program is a place for fun, but even more importantly, it is a place where we want every child to feel safe. We reminded them that whatever they're facing, no matter how big or small, if it makes them feel uncomfortable, they can always come to us. We told them, "We are here for you," encouraging them to see us as partners in their learning journey.

As part of Education Week, we completed our termly fire drill. Before we went outside, we had a chat, and the children asked some great questions. During the drill, everyone followed the instructions so well. They lined up quickly, walked calmly, and gathered safely. Afterward, we talked about why these drills are so important. We framed this not just as a safety rule, but as an act of collective responsibility. We learned that our individual safety is tied to the safety of the whole group, and that caring for each other is what makes our community strong.

This week, we also explored ways to look after our environment and use resources wisely. The children learned that instead of throwing things away, they can reuse items to create new things. Watching them proudly show off their creations was a powerful reminder of how recycling and imagination can be a perfect pair. We encouraged them to think critically about the resources they use and to see their creativity as a tool for positive change.

This year's Education Week was truly full of learning, creativity, and connection. From practicing safety to showing kindness, and from recycling projects to artistic creations, the children showed us just how caring, creative, and capable they are. It was a week where we all learned together, recognizing that education is a shared journey and that our classroom is a place where we can all grow in freedom and love. We are so proud of them all!
