BOOK WEEK

BOOK WEEK BUZZ! A WEEK OF FUN AND ADVENTURE

We kicked off Book Week with a fun and challenging competition: students were invited to match staff members to their childhood photos and their favourite books. It proved to be a tricky task that had both students and teachers scratching their heads!

The competition ran all week and attracted a steady crowd of enthusiastic participants each recess and lunchtime. It was fantastic to see so many students engaged and discussing books (and guessing who was who!).

Congratulations to our winners:

All 22 staff names correct - Nat, Naomi, Phoebe, Georgi and Josie (Combined effort)

18 staff names and 2 books correct - Lauren Sawyers

18 staff names  correct - Oceannah Joyce Anthony

Well done to everyone who took part—and a big thank you to the staff who shared their photos and book choices to help make this event such a success!

Where’s Wally Day? A Wacky Tuesday Surprise!

On Tuesday, students were met with a fun surprise—Where’s Wally Day! Almost all staff joined in the fun, dressed as the iconic Wally from Where’s Wally, and one sneaky staff member came disguised as his mischievous counterpart, Odlaw.

The pop-up challenge? Students had to figure out who the real Wally and Odlaw were among the sea of red-and-white stripes and yellow-and-black mischief. The first 20 students to correctly identify them won canteen vouchers—a popular prize!

The event brought plenty of laughs and excitement, with both students and staff enjoying the guessing game throughout the day.

Thanks to everyone who participated and made it such a memorable day!

Congratulations to our winners: The first 20 people who got the correct answer received a $5.00 canteen voucher.

Thursday - Dress up day and fund raising

On Thursday 21st,  staff and students alike got into the spirit by dressing up as their favourite book characters, bringing stories to life in every corner of the school.

We saw a colourful variety of costumes, including the Care Bears, Where’s the Green Sheep, The Three Blind Mice, Batman and Robin, Peter Pan, and many more. For those who preferred not to dress as a character, free dress was a great alternative option.

Everyone contributed a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going towards SecondBite and FareShare, merged organisations doing incredible work supporting Australians in need.

A special shout-out goes to 9A, who ran a fantastic bake stall and generously donated their earnings to the cause. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we raised an amazing $331.80 — enough to provide 1,300 meals to people doing it tough.

What a wonderful effort from our school community — thank you to all who took part and made it such a memorable day!

A big thank you to Jordan Beames (Year 8) who contributed to Book Week in a creative way by taking on the role of photographer during Thursday lunchtime. Armed with a camera Jordan captured the energy and excitement of the day through a series of fantastic photos taken across the yard. (Jordan's photos Below)

Friday: Author James Phelan Inspires Year 7 and 8 Students

On Friday of book week,  our Year 7 and 8 students were treated to a special visit from acclaimed Australian author James Phelan as part of our Book Week celebrations.

James captivated the students with the story of his journey into writing, from his early inspirations to becoming a published author. He shared how he builds his characters—often drawing from real people in his life—and offered insight into the creative process behind his gripping novels. With a perfect mix of humour and honesty, James kept students both entertained and engaged throughout the session.

A special mention goes to Jazmin and Malakaii from Year 8, who stayed back after the presentation to speak with James about their own writing interests. James was genuinely impressed by their enthusiasm and took the time to encourage them in their creative pursuits.

It was an inspiring and memorable experience for all involved—one that has certainly left a mark on many budding writers in our school community. A huge thank you to James Phelan for making our Book Week extra special!
