THE VILLAGE

The Village: Supporting Student Wellbeing Together
At Korumburra Secondary College, we believe in the value of community and its power in supporting the health and wellbeing of our young people. The Village is where we share resources, strategies, and stories that help us grow together as a school community.
A Quick Update on the Behaviour Matrix
Many of you have been following the progress of our new Behaviour Matrix, developed with input from our students. While it’s not quite ready just yet, we’re aiming to share it with you in about a fortnight. This matrix will provide clear expectations around our values—We are respectful, We are resilient, We are kind, and We try our best—and guide how we celebrate positive behaviour across the school.
Courage to Care: Being an Upstander
Recently, our students took part in the Courage to Care program. This program highlights the importance of being an upstander—someone who speaks up and takes positive action when they see something that isn’t right. It’s a powerful reminder that every individual can make a difference, and it connects closely to the values we are embedding across our school community.
We encourage parents and carers to follow up with students what they took away from this program. A massive shout out to our Nurse Anna for providing this opportunity for our students.
Evidence in Focus: Adolescence
This week, we’re highlighting an episode from the Pop Culture Parenting podcast, which looks at understanding adolescence. It is fresh off the press which allows people to interact with the Pop Culture Team on their socials.
Too often, young people feel weighed down by expectations—whether in school, sport, or social life. The research is clear: what teenagers need most is strong, supportive connections with the adults around them, alongside the space to learn and grow without unnecessary pressure. By balancing guidance with independence, we can help our young people build resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
