Prep

The Prep students spent this week threading beads onto pipe cleaners. They were encouraged to push beyond just putting beads onto the pipe cleaners. Could they do a pattern? Could they bend the pipe cleaners in certain ways? What would happen if they used two pipe cleaners instead of one?

The children busily threaded the beads, adding them to the pile from last week. The students were also very excited to see their handmade polymer clay beads were now hard and could be used on their work.

Grade 1/2

The students have been busy preparing their balancing sculpture's base. We have been looking at the work of Alexander Calder. He is a very well known sculptural artist who mostly makes mobiles. His work is relevant to us because he uses balance in his art.

This week we chose a piece of  wood and sanded the wood. We learnt about sanding the edges to remove splinters, and the importance of sanding with the grain of the wood. Once complete, students glued another piece of wood to their original block and then painted it.

Grade 3-6

It has been very inspirational to watch children create using clay as their medium. You really get to see a different side of their artistic abilities. Because we decided to leave the work open ended, there is so much variation in what has been created and they are all so unique and special. 

Clay takes quite a few weeks to become bone dry, which is necessary for firing in the kiln. These pieces will sit in Lauren's office until Term 4. Then they will be fired in the kiln and painted. Students will be able to take their piece home later in Term 4.

Artist of the Month

Ettie H - 6A

Ettie loves to draw and paint with watercolours. She draws every single day as it is a passion of hers. She really likes creating abstract art because there aren't too many rules so you can let your imagination run wild. She wants to create art that is bright, bubbly and fun. Her advice to anyone trying to get better at Art is to practise every day.

Hugh and the Mona Lisa
