Grade 6 News

The Year 6 students have had an eventful few weeks, engaging in a variety of extracurricular activities that have enriched their learning and personal development.
Students have participated enthusiastically in both the Winter Sports Carnival and structured Physical Education sessions facilitated by Galen College students. We commend all participants for demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship and resilience throughout these events. Notably, our Football and Netball teams performed exceptionally well, advancing to the finals in their respective competitions.
In preparation for the upcoming AFL 9’s competition at Galen College on Friday, 15th August, students have been involved in structured AFL 9’s training sessions. These sessions have focused on developing fundamental football skills and teamwork, and we look forward to seeing their efforts come to fruition during the competition.
We are also excited to announce our annual Book Week Parade, which will take place on Monday, 18th August. Students are encouraged to come dressed as a character from a book of their choice. This is always a highlight of the school year and a wonderful celebration of literature and creativity.
English
In the classroom, students are continuing their exploration of the novel Once by Morris Gleitzman. This powerful text is helping deepen their understanding of the experiences of Jewish people during the Holocaust.
This learning will be further supported by our upcoming excursion to the Holocaust Museum on Tuesday, 19th August, which promises to be a meaningful and educational experience.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, Year 6 students have been exploring strategies for adding fractions with both related and unrelated denominators. They have been applying their understanding of equivalent fractions, as well as using techniques such as doubling, halving, and identifying the lowest common multiple to convert fractions to like denominators.
This foundational work is helping students build confidence and fluency in fraction operations, setting them up for success in more complex problem-solving tasks.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to sharing more updates soon.
