Whole-School Attendance Update – Term 3

At Skye Primary School, we know that every school day counts. Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in helping children achieve academic success and maintain strong social and emotional wellbeing. When children are at school consistently, they not only stay on track with their learning but also build meaningful friendships and a sense of belonging.

We are very pleased to share that 91.4% of students currently have an attendance rate at or above 90% for Term 3. This is something to celebrate! The Department of Education sets a benchmark of 90% as the goal for regular attendance, and our community is working hard to meet and exceed this target.

What Does 90% Attendance Actually Mean?

While 90% may sound high, it actually equates to one day off every two weeks, or about 20 days absent over the course of a year. This is roughly 4 weeks of learning missed. Even small absences, when added up over time, can have a big impact—academically, socially, and emotionally. That's why it’s so important to aim for full attendance whenever possible and to work closely together if any barriers arise.

Working Together

We understand that illness and life events happen, and we truly appreciate families communicating absences clearly. Please remember to record all absences through Sentral, or by contacting our office at skye.ps@education.vic.gov.au. If you have any concerns about your child’s attendance, please don’t hesitate to contact their classroom teacher or speak with our wellbeing team.

Let’s keep working together to support every child to be happy, connected, and successful at school.
