Literacy
This term, students are continuing to build on their literacy skills through our novel study of Wonder. We are exploring new concepts and continuing to grow as independent and curious learners. Students are being exposed to a variety of vocabulary, examining relationships, experiencing the story through multiple perspectives, comparing and contrasting characters perceptions of themselves and other's perspectives of themselves, making connections to the characters experiences. Students will be discussing and analysing the text to determine the author's purpose. They will be developing their written responses by including evidence from the text that supports their thinking.
Numeracy
We are exploring the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages. They are learning to recognise and represent percentages using a hundred's grid and with bar models. Students will practise converting and ordering fractions, decimals and percentages.
In our Angles unit students will measure angles with formal units of measurement, they will measure and draw acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex and revolution angles.
Throughout our maths sessions student engagement will involve the use of whiteboards, turn and talk, choral responses, gestural responses.
Inquiry
Students are delving into the world of democracy; they will learn about the values of Australian democracy and the key features of the electoral process. They will learn about the responsibilities of the three levels of government.
Wellbeing
Students will be developing the Habits of Mind; Persisting and Thinking and Communicating with Clarity and Precision. They will be exploring character strengths, developing a gratitude journal and discover the benefits of positive affirmations.
Attendance:
The Importance of Regular School Attendance
At Skye Primary School, we know that regular attendance is key to helping your child thrive, not just academically, but socially and emotionally too. When students attend school every day, they stay connected to their learning, build stronger friendships, and feel a greater sense of belonging in the classroom.
We understand that illness and unexpected events can happen, and we appreciate families keeping us informed. If your child is absent, please record the reason via Sentral or contact the office at skye.ps@education.vic.gov.au.
If you have any concerns about your child’s attendance or if there’s anything we can do to support you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher. Working together helps ensure every student has the best chance to succeed.
Congratulations to our award winners
