Celebrate the Poetry of Francis Webb: A Centenary Tribute

You are warmly invited to a celebration of the life and poetry of St Pius X College alumnus, Francis Webb (1925 - 1973), one of Australia's greatest poets.  This year marks the 100th anniversary of Webb's birth, making this annual Webb poetry reading even more special.

When: Saturday 23 August

Time: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Where: Chatswood Library, The Concourse

Register here

This year, the college is proudly represented by Mac Hillsdon (Year 10), who will read one of Webb's poems alongside a student from Christian Brothers' High School, Lewisham, a fitting tribute, as Webb attended both schools.

The event will be hosted by Dr Toby Davidson (Macquarie University), poet, author, and editor of Francis Webb: Collected Poems.  He will be joined by Dr Michael Griffith, Webb's biographer, along with a select group of poet-readers who will read and reflect on their chosen poem.

If you are discovering Webb for the first time this is a rare opportunity to experience Webb's poetry and support our student reader, Mac.

To learn more about Francis Webb, visit our College library website. Further, in honour of Webb's centenary celebration, read Dr Toby Davidson’s commentary, The Gold Standard in the Australian Book Review.
