Bullying No Way: National Week of Action (Monday 11 - Friday 15 August)

This week, as part of the Bullying No Way – National Week of Action, we join schools across the country in promoting kindness, respect, and, most importantly, a sense of belonging. At St Pius X College, we are deeply committed to our touchstone of Inclusive Community, where every student feels safe, accepted, and supported.

Belonging is not just a feeling - it is something we actively create through our words, actions, and attitudes. When we foster an inclusive environment, we help build a school where bullying has no place.

Today, we focus on the value of empathy. Practising empathy means putting ourselves in someone else’s shoes, recognising their feelings, and responding with kindness and compassion. It can be as simple as listening without judgment, including someone who feels left out, or checking in on a classmate who might be having a tough day.

Empathy strengthens our relationships and plays a vital role in shaping a culture where everyone feels seen, valued, and understood. This is at the heart of who we are as a Catholic learning community.

We also want to acknowledge the wonderful efforts of our students who have participated in the 'Bullying – No Way' poster competition. Your creativity and commitment to promoting a safe, inclusive environment through your artwork has made a powerful statement.

Many thanks for the special efforts of all those who have been heavily involved in supporting this initiative, especially Mr Anthony Tassone, Mr Johnathon Dawson and Mr Glen Carroll.  Thank you for using your voice and talent to support this important cause.

Buddies Bushwalk

On Friday 8 August, Peer Mentoring students took part in a bushwalk from the school into Lane Cove National Park. This outing brought together Year 11 mentors and their Year 5 and 6 mentees, and was a great opportunity to strengthen bonds in the beautiful surroundings of this national park on our doorstep.

The walk was designed to promote connection, friendship, and a sense of belonging across different year levels. As they explored the tracks of Lane Cove National Park, students engaged in conversations, shared laughs, and supported one another along the way. For many of the younger students, it was a chance to build trust and feel more comfortable within the school community, while the older mentors showed leadership, care, and encouragement, reflecting the spirit of the Peer Mentoring program and the strong sense of community at St Pius X College.

Much appreciation to the staff involved in this important program – Mr Martin Gillogly, Ms Raelene Boyle, Mr Dan Quilty, Mr Steve Callow and Mr James Bourke.

Year 9 Police Presentation

This week, our local police liaison officer, Senior Constable Lynda Hart, presented to Year 9.   Senior Constable Hart spoke about a range of areas for the students, including:

  • As your grow older, every choice you make has a consequence. You can only rely on what you say and do.

  • Call your mates out when they are in the wrong. They need reminding.

  • Legalities around graffiti and carrying graffiti like material

  • The young offenders act, its role and outcomes for them currently

  • Shoplifting

  • Online use and personal reputational damage

  • Sharing of explicit material and social media use.

The cohort engaged very well with the topics and presentation.
