Friday the Correa children were welcomed into the Prep B classroom, they sat alongside the children for an introduction group time explaining that today we were going to join them in the gym for PMP (Perceptual Motor Program). PMP is designed to foster and develop children's movement skills, coordination, balance, and spatial awareness, whilst simultaneously developing their cognitive and language during the activities. By exposure to PMP this enhances children's understanding of their body, their environment, supports and expands on their sensory experiences. MPM activities involve obstacle courses, multi-sensory experiences, promoting body awareness (linked with spatial awareness) and balance skills.
Correa's First experience in a PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) session involved six different experiences; (1) Stilts - feet on top of the stilts whilst holding the ropes to walk, going back and forth from line to line, (2) Balance and Throw - one child would balance on a board whilst catching the bean bag their peer would throw from a distance, (3) Skate Boards (body boards) - laying their torso over the board and using their feet and hands to roll back and forth, (4) Ball Drop - this hand three hoola hoops in a line two children standing in the end ones whilst the middle was used for bouncing the ball to the other person, (5) Balance, Roll and Crawl - two balance beams in an L shape the children help a 2kg medicine ball walking/balancing along, once reaching the turn they would bend, roll the ball back to their peer waiting and crawl on the next beam under the hoops that the Preps held for us, (6) Tap and Fly - the children placed the bean bag at the end of the panel and stood on the other side watching the bean bag fly into the air.
All these experiences were created to support, foster and expand children's development whilst having fun!
