PRAYER
Father in heaven,
all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
she who bore the Christ in her womb
was raised body and soul in glory
to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example
in reflecting your holinessand join
in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
Last Friday all staff engaged in professional development focused on classical education. This involved an exploration of classical education principles within the context of Catholic education, Vision for Instruction and Vision for Engagement. Further information will be forthcoming in separate communication.
Tomorrow, 8th August, we will celebrate the Feast of St Mary of the Cross (Mary MacKillop), Australia’s first saint of the Catholic Church. Mary MacKillop’s legacy continues to influence and inspire people across the country and beyond. Her well-known words ‘Never see a need without doing something about it,’ encourage us to look out for those in need, support a friend or peer, and aspire to create a place of welcome. Mary MacKillop showed us how to live with courage and faith. She remains a saint for all of us today.
Next Friday, 15 August, we will celebrate the Solemnity of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This significant feast day recognises the spiritual and physical departure of the mother of Jesus Christ from the earth, when both her soul and her body were taken into the presence of God.
All students and staff will join St Philip’s parishioners for 9.00am Mass tomorrow and next Friday. Parents and friends are welcome to join us.
Bullying, No Way Week
Next week we will recognise ‘Bullying, No Way Week’. The theme is Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up. Students will engage in learning activities throughout the week. On Friday we will have a gather for a special morning tea.
Book Week 2025
Book Week commences Monday 18 August. The theme this year is ‘Book an Adventure’. Students will engage in reading some of the shortlisted books and do some associated activities during the week. We will have our Book Week parade on Tuesday 19 August at 9.00am. Students are invited to dress-up as their favourite book character, superhero, or theme on this day. Parents and friends are invited to join us in the hall for the parade.
Principal Conference
From 18 August to 22 August I will be attending the Australian Catholic Education Conference in Cairns with other principals and staff from Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools, and other Australian dioceses. The theme of the conference is ‘hope, anchored in faith’. The focus will be on the strategic vision and mission of Catholic education across three key areas – Faith, Excellence and Access. Within the context of these three areas learning will focus on Catholic identity, mission and formation; learning and teaching; leadership and governance; parent engagement; parish and community engagement; resourcing and infrastructure; advocacy and marketing; and more.
Deputy Principal Conference
Mrs Mary Terrance will be attending the Eastern Region Deputy Principal Conference in Healesville from 28 to 29 August. Mary’s attendance at the conference is an opportunity for her to engage professionally with leaders from other Catholic schools in the Eastern region and bring new learnings back to our school. Areas of focus during the conference include Vision for Instruction and Vision for Engagement.
School Concert
Our biennial School Concert will be held on Wednesday 17 September in the Father Arnold Centre (School Hall) commencing at 6.30pm. Please save the date. More details will be provided in the next few weeks.
Best wishes always,
