Whats been happening in the Senior classrooms..

Miss Howard, Miss Carroll, Miss Kupper
This term, our Year 5/6 students are exploring the values of Australian democracy and learning about the key features of the electoral process. They are also developing their understanding of the responsibilities of the three levels of government.
In addition, students are setting personal and social goals, working both individually and as a class towards common goals. A key focus has been on developing debating skills. Students have learnt how to structure an argument with a clear introduction, supporting points, and a strong conclusion. They have explored how to use persuasive language, evidence, and examples to strengthen their arguments. Alongside this, they have practised the importance of active listening, rebuttal techniques, and respectful turn-taking during a debate.
Through writing, practising, and presenting debates, students are building confidence in public speaking, teamwork, and critical thinking. These skills not only prepare them for their debating showcase but also support their ability to communicate ideas effectively across all areas of learning.
