Leadership Report

At last week’s assembly, Mr Shortt highlighted all the events coming up in Term 3. By the time he got to the end, you could almost hear the collective gasp: “How are we going to fit all of that in?” That’s school life for you - busy, bustling, and never a dull moment.

Of course, one of the biggest highlights of Term 3 has been welcoming our new midyear Reception students, who have been diving into Magill School life with enthusiasm. It’s been a joy watching their confidence blossom - children who once avoided eye contact are now greeting us with big smiles and cheerful waves.

At the other end of the school, our Year 6 students are in full swing, busily preparing for Market Day in Week 10. Our Year 6 leaders have also been putting in extra time - arriving early and giving up their lunch breaks - to prepare for a string of upcoming commitments, including Sports Day, the parent workshop, school tours, and the partnership student leaders’ day.

Around the school, students have been getting active in a variety of sporting events. Junior primary enjoyed a fun-filled Cricket Clinic run by the South Australian Cricket Association, while this week saw SAPSASA boys’ soccer and both girls’ and boys’ basketball in action. Congratulations to our boys’ soccer team for advancing to the next round! Our basketball teams played with great spirit and teamwork, and while their run ended this year, we know they’ll be back stronger next season.

On Tuesday, 12th August, the Primary Schools String Orchestra (PSSO) visited Magill School to perform for our Year 3 and 4 students. It was a wonderful opportunity for these young musicians to showcase their talents. We were also thrilled that some of our Magill students had the chance to perform as part of the orchestra. Congratulations to all involved on a fantastic performance!

The ABODA SA School Band and Orchestra Festival is in full swing this week at Westminster School (August 12–15), bringing together over 3,000 students from nearly 40 schools. The festival showcases an incredible range of performances, from percussion and string ensembles to concert and big bands.

Huge congratulations to our talented ABODA students from Magill School, who on Wednesday earned a silver medal - an outstanding achievement, especially considering they were competing against secondary school bands. Bravo to all involved!

A couple of housekeeping matters before we head into the weekend.

Hats

Please ensure your child has their hat with them each day as the weather improves, so too does the requirement to wear a hat when the UV is 3 or over.

Traffic Crossings

Magill Rd and Penfold Road are extremely busy both before and after school. There have been a number of observations of unsafe behaviour at the crossing. Parents have been observed crossing the road nearby but not using the actual crossing. For children making their way to and from school independently, this is dangerous role modelling. If they see an adult choosing to cross outside of the crossing, they may decide it is ok to do so themselves. Please be mindful and remember: safety first! Have a lovely and safe weekend.
