SCIENCE WEEK

MRS JACLYN CLARK - CURRICULUM LEADER SCIENCE

Last week we celebrated National Science Week with a variety of lunchtime activities for our students.  It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved in the activities.  We quite literally launched into science week on Monday and Tuesday with popsicle stick catapults and rocket launching highlighting the use of physics in our world.  We tested our brains' psychological ability to decipher magic eye pictures on Wednesday before delving into some chemistry with coke and mentos chemical reactions on Thursday.  Students hypothesised which type of cola/coke/diet/no sugar would give the biggest explosion before testing. For those wondering at home, one full packet of mentos in a 2L regular coke brand was definitely the biggest reaction.

We finished off the week with one of the most exciting activities that brings out the inner child in all of us, Slime!  We had many students come and make the gooiest and fluffiest slime that gives hours of entertainment. (Apologies to the parents of students who brought this home, I hope they didn’t make a mess.)

I would like to thank all the Science Staff who helped coordinate and run these activities, Mr Seguin, Mr McDonald, Mr Anderson, Mr Waterson, Mr Thompson, Mr Haley, Mr Venter, Miss Robinson-Hore, Mrs Cordingley, Mr Scholtens and of course our behind the scenes organisational lab tech guru Mrs Cumming.  We are blessed to have such passionate science teachers who bring just as much excitement to our classrooms as Mr Waterson brings talent to catching water rockets.  Check out the pictures below and our Science week reel on social media to see some of the fun.
