Ash Wednesday Mass

Year 3/4 students should be commended for their outstanding conduct and participation in leading our school’s Ash Wednesday Mass on Wednesday this week, especially in the readings. They have every reason to be proud of their efforts. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the families who joined us.

English

This week in writing, we began an exciting new topic—persuasive writing also known as Expositions. Students explored the key features of this text type, learning how to structure their arguments effectively. They focused on using an organised paragraph structure known as: OREO—Opinion, Reason, Example, Opinion—to build a strong and logical argument. Additionally, they practiced incorporating high-modality words, which are powerful vocabulary choices used to persuade an audience, such as; absolutely, definitely, must, and will. Students need to ensure their writing includes at least three well-developed arguments.

For our "Big Write" this week, students tackled the thought-provoking topic: Children should be in charge. This sparked some incredibly creative and compelling responses, as students worked to present their opinions in a convincing manner. They were reminded of the importance of supporting their claims with clear reasoning and examples to strengthen their arguments. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm and critical thinking skills on display as they engaged in this writing task!

Creative Arts

Over the past two weeks, our Year 3/4 students have been hard at work creating stunning artworks for the upcoming Barraba Show and the office foyer display. All students have showcased impressive skill while exploring the colour wheel and mastering colour blending with oil pastels. Throughout this process, they have also refined their ability to follow instructions and incorporate intricate details into their pieces. Some of these artworks will be on display in the office foyer over the next two weeks—be sure to stop by and admire their work!

We are looking forward to seeing families at the upcoming St Joseph's Family Barbeque!
