Ryan’s Rambling

Dear Families,

A warm week here at Dana Street with today marking the halfway point of Term One. Time certainly is flying!

The school was abuzz with excitement this week as we held our annual School Athletics Carnival.  Our four respective houses, Baker, Dunne, Spielvogel and Martin were well represented by our students, with so many of them making us proud. It wasn’t just the students who ran the fastest, jumped the highest or threw the furthest, it was the camaraderie, the supportive cheering, the “well done” to all students regardless of where they placed, and the consistent demonstration of our School Values that made the day such a joy to attend.

Thank you to the many parents who volunteered their time to support us in marshalling events, or helping to supervise students, thank you so much for your support. I also wanted to mention Emma, who has spent considerable time and effort coordinating the event. Congratulations to Spielvogel House, who were victorious in winning the Athletics Cup for this year.

On Friday of last week, we took a small, yet dedicated group of students to the Eureka Division Swimming Carnival, at the Ballarat Aquatic Centre. A few of our students managed to win their pools, which was a phenomenal effort. It has been a couple of years since we had representation at this event, so it was great to be able to be there with students from our school.

This week I had the opportunity to take our Student Leaders to the Town Hall to begin the Kids’ Think Tank. We piloted the program along with the Ballarat Council last year, which was very successful. Our student leaders get the chance to feed back to the Council about local community issues, such as public transport, waste reduction and community sport.  Our student leaders led with integrity and confidence at their first meeting, along with student leaders from some of our surrounding schools.

Finally, it looks as if the cooler weather may be on the horizon. We officially begin Autumn tomorrow, can you believe it?

Have a fantastic weekend.

Ryan 😊
