2025 Newsletter Issue 2
It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the summer sunshine and pleasant company at our annual Welcome Picnic! Many lifelong friendships can be traced back to this event, which is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community. Special thanks to Stef, Convenor of our Community and Fundraising Sub-committee for organising things, and to her merry band of sausage sizzlers for volunteering their time and skills on the day.
Special visitors
We were delighted to host a delegation of academics from Melbourne University and the University of Verona (Associate Professor Daniela Acquaro & Professor Claudio Girelli) and principals from schools in the north of Italy who were in Melbourne to participate in the ICSEI 2025 (International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement). Chiara and Nancy did a fantastic job showcasing our bilingual model, our approach to student voice and agency, and our distributive leadership structure.
We were proud to show them around the school and see our students and staff in action. They were highly engaged and curious, asking questions from beginning to end. The visit was a lot of fun and we look forward to continuing to build on these new relationships in the future and learning from one another. Grazie mille to Chiara and Nancy for their outstanding presentation on our school programs and for their warm generosity in hosting.
School Council Elections
Being a School Council member is a rewarding way to contribute to the school community. You’ll be able to collaborate with teachers, school leadership and fellow parents, helping to foster the supportive and positive school environment we are so fortunate to enjoy at BSPS. It can be a great way to develop new skills, build connections, and make a lasting impact on the school community. Keep an eye on Compass to find out how and when to nominate; info coming soon.
Condolences and gratitude
I know I speak on behalf of the entire school community in offering our deepest condolences to the Gourlay-Hutchison family during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are with them and we wish them strength and peace in the days ahead.
We are deeply grateful for the strength and support of our incredible community as we mourn the loss of this beautiful young person. It is in times like these that the power of a supportive community shines, and we are so thankful to be surrounded by such caring individuals.
Ciao for now
