Level 1 Homework Matrix #4
Homework Viewing Instructions:
Reminders:
Please remember if your child has a lunch order that requires cutlery, the canteen does not supply cutlery, students need to bring their own from home. Thank you.
Hats still need to be worn this term.
We encourage students to enjoy a fruit/vegetable snack at 10 am every day. We find this helps the students to stay energised and focused.
Literacy :
This week we have enjoyed reading about the adventures of Saltie Mumma, a saltwater crocodile living up in the Northern Territory. We read about Saltie Mumma's behaviour, diet, habitat and nesting. The students wrote some wonderful sentences about our book and here's a few examples:
Crocodiles live in rivers and they go up to the mud and grass to make nests. After, they lay eggs and they hatch. Babies come out of their eggs and they break their shells.
Nicole S. 1B
A crocodile made a nest near the river in a muddy area near some grass.
Charlie P. 1B
Saltwater crocodiles lay eggs in a nest, next to a grassy river with a lot of mud.
Aggie W.R. 1B
Next week we continue on with our theme of tropical northern Australia as we delve into the environment of Kakadu and all its inhabitants. Our new book is Dry to Dry- the seasons of Kakadu. We will be learning all about using accurate punctuation, creating sentences, making connections as we read, inferring and even writing an information report about Kakadu!
We have been so pleased with both the quality and quantity of our Level 1's writing this term, including their spelling choices, use of descriptive vocabulary and correct punctuation. Keep up the wonderful writing (and reading) Level 1 students!
Over the next fortnight, during our Phonics lessons, we will be reviewing all of the sounds, rules, suffixes and heart words from this term.
Maths:
Level 1 students have loved playing Maths games after recess each day that support their growth in number knowledge as well as fluency.
In the remaining weeks of the term, we are exploring the concept of sharing equally. In developing an understanding of how to share equally, students first need to identify the total number in a collection. They will then divide the total between groups to share equally. This will lead to the understanding that in order to share equally, we must first have an even number.
Inquiry Focus: Knowing Me
Exploring the Yellow and Red Zones
As part of our Zones of Regulation learning, students will be exploring the Yellow and Red Zones during their Inquiry lessons. The Yellow Zone includes emotions such as frustration, worry, excitement, and nervousness—feelings that signal we need to use strategies to stay in control. The Red Zone represents intense emotions like anger, fear, or extreme excitement, which can make it harder to think clearly and respond appropriately.
By understanding these zones, students will learn to recognise their emotions, identify how their bodies react, and develop strategies to manage their feelings effectively. This knowledge will support their self-regulation skills, helping them navigate challenges and stay engaged in their learning.
