Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.

May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

Student Led Conferences

We are delighted to be promoting learner voice and agency through our Student Led Conferences, coming up in Week 9 of this term, Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th of March. These conferences are being strategically planned for, and explicit teaching is happening with our students to maximise their input and engagement in this celebration of learning. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the date.

Bookings for Student Led Conferences can be made through the School Interview Portal from March 6 at 4:00 pm. Bookings will close on March 18th, the week before the commencement of the conferences. We look forward to families joining us to hear about their child's achievements, share in their Learning Portfolios and connect with classroom teachers.

Feedback on School Policies

We are very proud to be a Child Safe School. Victoria’s Child Safe Standards are a set of mandatory requirements to protect children and young people from harm and abuse.

A range of policies and documents are provided to our families on our website and are available in hard copy through the Administration Office. I welcome any feedback on the content of these important documents. The documents that outline the school’s framework for ensuring students are safe:

  • Child Safety Code of Conduct: The Code of Conduct sets out the acceptable and unacceptable behaviours in all school situations including school camps and the use of digital technology and social media.
  • Child Safety and Wellbeing policy: Our policy is the heart of our child safety framework. It sets out our commitment and approach to creating and maintaining a child safe organisation. In particular, I would ask that you familiarise yourself with the strategies used by the school and note the roles of people in our school for child safety.
  • Child Safety Responding and Reporting Obligations policy and procedures: The policy and procedures set out how the school responds to an incident at the school. This includes mandatory reporting, reportable conduct and the failure to disclose and protect offences.

Parking at School and Child Safety

Miners Rest K-6 ask all of our families to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all of our children in relation to road safety. Please ensure that you are parking legally on the roads surrounding our school and dropping off/collecting your child/ren safely. Please do not compromise the safety of your own, or other people's children for the sake of saving 5 minutes. We thank you for your cooperation in abiding by the traffic laws that support the safety of our school community.

Curriculum Day

This Friday is student free for us at school as our whole staff engages in broadening our knowledge and capacity to incorporate Inclusive Practices across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6, including our OSHC staff.

The day will be facilitated by Onwards and Upwards Psychology and will focus on...

  •  Introduction to Neurodiversity Affirming Practice - inclusing updates in language and understandings and how this may translate to classroom cultures.
  • Autism - what it is, understanding the internalised presentation of autism, understanding masking, etiology of distress behaviour and why it happens.
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - understanding ADHD, supporting executive functioning such as organisation and planning and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Building and nurturing responsive and inclusive classroom cultures.

We thank our School Council for their support in endorsing our Curriculum Days, allowing us to prioritise time to engage in this important learning.

We wish all of our families a safe and enjoyable long weekend - stay safe and take care!

Kylie Nissen.
